Participant😡 Does anyone know why manufactures are using this type of Screw bolt with Allen key required, when trying to remove the only thing that happens is that the hex hole rounds off even when heat is applied., even tried a chisel but alloy disintegrated.
Any tips greatly appreciated.
Or is it there attempt to prevent repairers to provide a cheap an effective repair

Thanks wilf
but I should of said it was a 6mm key in a socket, the alloy just breaks up and round the the hex hole up, do they use a metalic super glue /loctite to stop the screw from comming out.May 20, 2006 at 10:57 am #177058whitevanman

I think that even this brand including indesit & Servis group should also carry a public weath warning saying :-
“Dont purchase this brand as we are trying to make it increasingly difficult/expensive for our machines to be repaired as we dont care about the environment or your finances only our operating profits/margins thats unless you want to take a five year waranty with our insurance allies to make exceedingly good profit to pay our directors/managers, and wish to make your local engineer forced in to working with us or buying a franchise thus holding him by the Nuts, either way we win!”
“We will therefore control every whitegoods repairer in the land and will manage his finances for him and give him some pocket money for him thats only if he begs and does what we tell them to do”.

No doubt about it this arrangement is a pain in the ****, however I have used quality socket bits to remove the pulley bolt and as we all know you either end up round the bolt off or breaking the socket bit:
My solution is to use a sharp chisle and get a firm hold in the bolt first, by then applying short sharp blows I then get it to turn a few times. Once you get to this stage the correct tool i.e a socket based allen can be used to fully remove the bolt.
I have not had one fail me yet using this technique:
