It appears there’s a guy that fixes Bosch washing machines in Tunbridge Wells that doesn’t accept cheques. He called at one lady customer and fixed the machine and then asked for £160 but wanted paying in CASH!!!

The lady explained that she didn’t have that amount of money, wasn’t expecting it to cost so much anyway but volunteered writing him out a cheque for the full amount. He refused the offer of a cheque point blank and insisted on cash or no deal unless she went with him to a local Cashpoint.

So intimidated by this and yet wishing to resolve the problem and get rid of the man she was marched off to the hole in the wall and withdrew the cash he demanded.

This happened about 12 months ago and I heard of it today from her sister who lives in my village. I went to fix her machine and told me the story adding that her sister was so traumatised by the whole episode she didn’t complain to Trading Standards or anyone as she “didn’t want to make a fuss”.

I wonder if ‘The Cashpoint Kid’ I still riding around Tunbridge Wells these days? :rolls: 🙁

Re: Marched off to the Cashpoint!

One of my customers works at a bank behind the counter and was telling me about an old chap that came in to withdraw £2000.00 from one of her colleagues apparently he was very confused and a little upset as he didn’t want to offend the two men waiting outside for him who had just repaired his loose chimney !
She asked him if he had agreed the work ,he replied no at which the bank staff suggested he come the other side of the screens and had a cup of tea while they called the police .
The bank worker got a police commendation for her quick thinking ,and the two men were prosecuted .

just goes to show they are everywhere .

You get these greedy ruthless bas*ards in every trade im afraid, i think they may do even more damage to our trade though.
I mean, if you get ripped off by a roofer or a plumber, you will certainly be more choosy next time, but youre still going to call one.

Our trade is different in that the customer has the option of simply deciding to replace a problem appliance rather than risk another bandit entering their home.. and who could blame them having read Martins tale.. 🙁
