ParticipantHave a customer with a complaint leaving black marks on the white clothes, She complained this fault over 6 mths ago, So then i decieded to strip it down and cleaned it out well, replaced bearings etc, replaced door gasket as it was mouldy, now she is complaining that the fault didnt go away and it is still damaging all her whites.
I have gone through the spill about hot washes, keeping soap draw clean, use of deterents(using bold 2 in1 at the moment but she has used all the different brands), etc and insists that she has done all that, but the door seal is really mouldy again in such a short time.
She uses it for washing football kits, but checks filter after each wash.
The machine heating rinsing, pumping ok but cannot find a reaon for this, the marks look like oil but I think they are the black mould from the seal.
I am going to collect it for workshop repair to run some tests but I think it is down to deteregents and tempertures.
Any one have any other thoughts.October 10, 2007 at 11:05 am #230422kwatt

Hi Steven,
I’d agree, it’s almost certainly something being put in there or the detergency use that’s the problem, not the machine.
Here’s the common one especially where you have teenagers using hair products, like gel or hairspray etc. This can obviously easily transfer onto shirt collars etc as well.
Also have a read at this one which may well be the case if there’s damp sports kit laying about for a while.

The three items that had these marks on this occasion was a brand new nylon football shirt, pair of childs underpants, cotton teashirt, cotton football socks. To be honest when I smelt them you would have thought they havent even been washed, they have just come out of the laundry bag!
Prevous to this the it was the judo robes. What can you do the customer insists they are doing hot washes using different detergents and tempertures not overloading, but how can you be sure?
I will be bringing the machine to workshop and run my own tests with some whites to see what happens.

Hi is the vent steam hose intact? I have had them being dragged into the tub rubbing on the drum and transfering onto clothes!

When the bearings went the 1st time , the vent hose has rubbed on the drum but is still in tack apart from a small scuff. Cannot see that causing it.
Been out to check it as customer doesnt want to be with out the machine, she has told me that the last white wash she did no marks have appeared 😕
Removed the hoses to check the drum, it is clean, cannot fault it.
Apart from all the tips I have given and if she is telling me the truth then what more can I do ❓October 15, 2007 at 2:37 pm #230428kwatt

Not a lot really. 😕
Bar one thing…
Find out what powder she’s using and, if it’s P&G or Unilever product, then you can send a sample to them asking if they can identify the cause. They will usually do this FOC as a customer service.
