I have one! About 16 years old. Yesterday I read this as I could not get it to spray the soapy water. As the pump had failed once before I was ready to dump the thing because I had all my furniture moved ready to clean the carpets. It had been up the attic for a year and had been working when on its last cleaning job. In desperation I hit on the idea of using the syringe off an ink cartridge filling kit to inject some soapy water through the black rubber hose as I pressed the pump. On the third try some really dirty water came through the spray end and hey presto ! It unblocked. I can only assume that the residual water left in the pump at the end of use will dry and block the thing– probably worse if there is long gaps between use. This is worth trying I think because with the last pump I think I burned it out trying to get it to start spraying. All carpets now clean.

A friend had one – no spray. It turned out that fluff and fine fibres had been sucked in through the pump and clogged the sprayjet.

Try rinsing it under hot water; and see if there is a filter on the end of the feed-pipe in the clean water/detergent tank. They can become clogged due to detergent residues (waxy deposits).
