Hi i am new to the trade and wondered whats the score regarding opening an account with master-parts… would prefer to pay using my credit card rather than having credit ..Is it possible to open a trade account this way and do you need to be spending on a regular occasion to keep the account. Can anyone recommend any other good ones that are decent for trade ??
    Thanks in advance.

It’s not the best time to be starting up in this trade but I wish you well anyway. There should be no problem getting something sorted with Masterpart, although you would be best asking them yourself about available methods of payments. It’s odd, over the years I’ve had no problems opening accounts with national suppliers but local firms always seem to want big forms filled in, bank references etc. I would suggest you initially approach Masterpart with an order for common items like carbon brushes, tumble drier belts, pumps etc plus anything you need immediately for specific jobs. I think if you make your order over £60 you will get free delivery but not sure if that applies to all orders or just those placed online.
No you don’t have to order regularly. These days suppliers need all the customers they can get so they are not looking to cancel accounts. You could also try Homespares. They don’t stock everything but their staff seem to have more integrity than most.

    Hi
I use masterpart and the only way I pay is via my debit card at the time of order. They have my card details on file, so I just order online and they take the money from my card with no need to phone me for payment. Simples 🙂

If you don’t place an order with Masterpart for 6 weeks or more they switch you off!! You then have to ring them, place another order before they switch you on again…!! Very annoying… 👿

Yeah thats what i found and how basic is making an order over the phone when all they had to do was turn me back on so i could put an order through as it was a big order and took ages over the phone and was a waste of time for them and me.

    Hi ,

Thanks for the response …I have not long finished doing the domestic appliance training course and was considering which direction to go ..Either see if anyone wants to take me on or going out on my own which by the sounds of it seems a little daunting when you have only just got into the trade .

Time to consider my options i guess 😕 Thanks for the info on the materparts deal.

It surely is a cut & thrust, first man to the post wins type trade. Very hit and miss when you first venture forth too. The good news is that this web site is a goldmine of help and information for both newbies like yourself to experienced old duffers in the game , like me! 😉

Venture forth step by step, little by little to find your way about. Tech info is scant to say the least so a good logical approach to all problems is vital. Especially when your stuck in someones kitchen with the back off the machine and haven’t a scooby doo as to what’s wrong or what to test. That can only be realised after a lot of aggro, expense on your part and heartache. Put a foot wrong and the customer will have the last word believe me.

Anyway, back to your original question and getting an account with Masterpart (and Qualtex for that matter) is essential. Both can supply you with hard copies of their latest catalogues too (if they’re still in print?). Masterpart’s is as big as the Yellow Pages with shed loads of photo’s and info within that’s essential for most newbies to flick through and identify parts. H T Maddocks too is a good contact you may well find, they too deal in a huge range of stuff, most of which you’ll need to cover on a day to day basis.

That’s enough for you to get on with for now I reckon…ALL THE BEST! 😀

I’ve not found that. When I was in New Zealand it would have been more than 6 weeks between orders. Connect sometimes used to ring me and tell me that I was supposed to order at least £150 worth a month! If they did that now I would tell them where to stuff their account. 😈
