When using the main washing cycle the machine gets stuck part-way through and will not complete. Any thoughts on isolating the problem and fixing it? (Plumbing / electrical knowledge / experience approximately nil!)

It’s a mechanical timer Chinese one, so there is a very common problem which pops up regularly.

Is the water getting hot at the point at which the timer stops? The timer stops until the thermostat completes the circuit at the right temperature and restarts it.

If “No”, you’ll need one of THESE LITTLE CHAPPIES – the thermal safety cut-out. They fail for fun….

Stay safe, power off if you intend to deal with this yourself.

Thanks for the quick response – probably best for a chap like me to get a man out to fix that kind of stuff.
