Hello – I’m planning to replace our integrated fridge freezer, and I’m curious about the maximum appliance widths. At the moment we have a Smeg integrated fridge freezer which measures 54cm wide. It fits in a 56cm wide aperture, and the spare 2cm is taken up by the body of the hinges that the 2 decor doors are fixed to.
Can I take it that any replacement appliance must also be no more than 54cm wide, or have some manufacturers found a sneaky way to accommodate the decor door hinges? I’ve been looking at the Liebherr website, and while many of their units are 55.9cm wide, the required aperture width is shown as only 56-57cm. Do they just fix the decor doors directly to the unit and not bother with separate hinges? Seems unlikely unless the appliance door hinges have sufficient throw on them to stop a collision with the surrounding carcase. Or is the Liebherr website wrong?
Hope this isn’t too obvious a question, any help gratefully received.

Finally worked this out, after a lot more hunting on this website. Not sure why the search function didn’t pick out the answer, but I can now see that some manufacturers (including Liebherr) use a door-on-door system rather than a slider. I guess it gives them more volume for a given height, but I’m not sure I’d want all that weight and duty on just one pair of hinges per door. Looks like I’ll have to go back to Smeg or AEG.
