Maytag M2260iSSB ice making problem

I have a Maytag M2260i SSB fridge freezer purchased new in October 2003. It has been a great machine.

About a year ago, it started to make occasional “clicking” sounds. It would click every 5 or 10 seconds and this would go on for about 1/2 hour at a time. The clicking could be felt through the wire sensor bar in the ice compartment. At about the same time, it would stop making ice for a short while and then, without explanation it would start up again. It has now deteriorated to the point that it never makes ice. It has also stopped clicking which suggests that something has finally broken.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it? Where is the best place to buy parts?

Alternatively, is there a good service agent near Hatfield, Herts who comes recommended?

Hi Howard,

It sounds as if the ice maker unit has packed up. 🙁

Usually these are supplied as full units as to strip them down is a right pain. Normally they ain’t cheap either I’m afraid, the last one I had to get was knocking on for £200 IIRC.

To replace is fairly straightforward but, in all honesty, I’d get an engineer to do it as you’ll get a decent warranty then.

The ice maker is complete with the exception of a couple of parts which transfer over from the old unit.
Namely wiring loom and arm.
