Maytag – not cooling

    Hi all,

    I have a Maytag G32026PELB fridge freezer.

It’s got an issue where the compressor will not run automatically, thus I have no cooling.

This fridge has the jazz board and I’ve ran through the diagnostic tests and everything seems fine. (Jazz version 15 and fridge is code 25)

The compressor runs on demand etc..

All temp sensors pass the built in tests.

I’ve even removed both thermistors from the unit and tested with multimeter. The defrost thermostat also passes.

The strange thing is, if I leave the fridge door open the compressor runs, and I can see the coils at the back of the freezer cooling fine. The evap fan kicks in and everything looks good.

As soon as the door is closed the compressor does not run, despite the temp being room temp. (No ice build up).

I think I’ve pretty much ruled everything out so I’m just about ready to buy a new jazz board, but wanted people’s opinions.

Have I missed something? Or is there something I can replace first?
(Both caps on jazz board test fine)

Is there anything else I can do?

    Thanks,

    Mike

It will need a new Jazz board.
The new one will come with the instructions how to program it.
If it does not except the code on the plate try 05 or 15

What is it on the board that breaks?

If it’s a component on there then I can remove it and replace?

I’ve rescued a 50″ TV by replacing some blown capacitors.

Seems silly to buy a new board for pence worth of resistors.

I have been told it is a fault with the program chip and it is not repairable.

This was by a pcb refurb company.

    Re: Maytag – not cooling

For anyone elses reference, I’ve replaced both omron relays and the two capacitors on the PCB and I’ve still got the same issue.

Don’t really think it could be a software fault, that doesn’t make sense.

Something on the fridge is preventing the compressor running when the door is closed.

It runs fine when the door is open.

Just a wild guess but…..door light switch?

    How can I check that?

When the door is open, the lights come on and the compressor kicks in. When the door is closed the lights go off and the compressor turns off.

It’s not automatically starting the compressor.

PCB program fault new PCB only option

    What causes this fault though?

This fridge has been fine for years, and suddenly developing a software fault doesn’t seem likely?

Is there somewhere I can buy a board from which will accept returns if it doesnt resolve the issue?

Most suppliers will not except a return but I have never found a Matag with this fault that a new PCB has not cured.

So you’ve had this exact same problem before?

If that’s the case I’ll buy a new board now.

Hello, yes we’ve had it before many times. A new pcb will sort the problem out. It’s not often we get down to component level on pcbs any more.

    Cheers.

    Just to keep this updated.

The fridge is now operating correctly.

I’ve replaced both the 0.47uf Capacitors and the fridge is back alive!

Cost me about £4 in parts and a bit of time.

    Thanks for the advice.

Turns out one of the caps is used then the door is open and the other when the door is closed.
