I have a 10-year-old Maytag side by side fridge freezer (model RSW2200EAE). It hasn’t been switched on for 3 years, but when I plugged it in, it blew the fuse straight away. When it is turned off at the rotary switch inside, all the lights work and there’s a gentle hum from underneath, but as soon as you turn the dial to switch it on, it blows the fuse again. I live in the Channel Islands and Maytag could not recommend an engineer so potentially the repair costs will be prohibitive. Any thoughts?

You should be able to find a refrigeration engineer on the island, who will take a look…my guess is the compressor has siezed-up with standing

If I were a risk-taker, i’d try a heavier fuse , on the basis that the house -circuit will trip if the appliance overloads to that degree…..the downside being that the appliance could let out all the magic blue smoke…..but there again, it’s not working right now, anyway, so at least i’d KNOW it was burned-out! 😈

I am not a professional, so exercise due caution !

Incidentally, my mother lived at Nomond Place ( #3, iirc ) many years ago, when it was new!….small world! 🙂
