Maytag tumble dryer MTD09WH/1 condenser not cooling

I have a Maytag Condenser dryer, model number MTD09WH/1. The machine tumbles and the clothes get warm but they are not drying and there is no water in the condenser reservoir. The heat exchange unit doesn’t seem to be getting cooled so I suspect that it’s not drawing in cold air so the moisture is not condensing. Does anyone know if there is a separate motor running the impeller that brings in cool air and, if so, whether this is likely to be the problem? The heat exchange unit is cleaned regularly so that’s not the problem.

It doesn’t work like that really.

Warm air hits the condenser on the bottom, water condenses on that and it’s drawn away either collected in the tank or pumped out.

I would be looking to the heater as the culprit from what you describe and although the model is not shown, it’s this one used in it.

Thanks very much for the reply. The heater does seem to be working as the clothes are getting warm, just not drying. I understand that the condenser unit works in the way you have described but the water will only condense if the unit is colder than the warm air being drawn through it, which seems to be the problem (ie the condenser unit is warm). In fact it does seem that the condenser is drawing in air so I am mystified why water is not condensing out.

Normally if that happens it’s restricted airflow and/or the surrounding air is too warm to allow the condenser to get cool enough to effectively condense the water.

Thanks. Having pulled the machine out from under the worktop into clear space it is now working fine. I think that the airflow must have been restricted by putting clothes from the washing machine in front of the dryer. The in-flow for the condenser unit is at the bottom of the machine. Schoolboy error!
