The advertisement was in the Sunday Telegraph web directory today. I know it may be a little late for this three edition slot but more care needs to be taken with the text size, colour and background to allow for the size reduction in the printed version. The top set of red text is not to bad as it is highlighted in white but the lower red text, built to last, designed to repair, Guaranteed to last for five years. is virtually unreadable when reduced to fit on a page with 23 other adverts.

I hate to sat it John, but that’s a mess…….. Really doesn’t work for me at all. Far, far too cluttered. No feature of the product either, as the text is unclear.
Sorry,

I played with colouration on that photo (and several others) and, TBH, it’s a nightmare to get it right.
The problem is that we tried to get across a story, the ISE story, in a space no larger that a business card which, I’m sure you’ll agree, isn’t at all an easy task. Fair play to John, he went for the headline straight away but it’s not easy to get it across visually at all. That said, like may mid to upper range products don’t show the product, the point is to encourage interest in the story and, as is the case here, to use another medium (the internet) to tell the story.
Cleverly John has actually done us all a favour in many ways in how he’s positioning ISE. In fact it’s very smart indeed for us as repairers. Why more people in this industry don’t support this I’ll never understand.
What’s being said is that repair is the “green” preference to replacement. This is nothing new really, but it comes with a new spin on it. The spin is that we have a hell of a lot of information to back up the claim that repair is preferable and less damaging to the environment. The solution is even provided in the form of ISE and UKW.
Now, you can look at that however you like. You can say that it’s jaded and just making use of the “environmental market” or, you can see the nobility in the argument. What you can’t do is argue that repairing an appliance as opposed to sending it to landfill is preferable. No-one can.
What also cannot be argued is that telling people that repairing is better, then showing them the way to ISE and UKW is a “good thing” ™.
It might not be perfect. I may even argee with that. But it’s not wrong.

Constructive critism is always welcomed guys.
This is a new venture for us all, we have to start somewhere and we’ll get better as we learn.
Thanks

I have no problems with the text content, short & to the point. The only problem is, you can’t read it. The background picture could have been cut off to leave a small clear space at the bottom to make the text readable. Just check out the other adds on that page, almost all legible with the exeption of one other that is also using reddish text on a dark background.

ParticipantHi Guys
A quick update this month basically following on from Ken’s post.
The centralisation of administration is important as we have now out grown our ability to borrow people to work on ISE from Kevin, Ken, Sean and david’s businesses. Thanks to your efforts our sales to date have allowed us to now stand alone and make preporation to expand the product portfolio in 2007.
The negociation on a semi commercial machine is rumbling on and a tumble dryer and a top quality dish washer are closer than on the horizon.
The WEEE directive is a huge risk to ISE as if you are charged £300 to £1000 each just to join a compliance scheme there is a chance that service agents will simplly stop selling. After a lot of time and effort we have a ‘cunning plan’ for free compliance, trials of which start in Yorkshire and the North West this week.
The Ad in the sunday telegraph was good learning for us. We got enough sales and leads to cover the cost despite the artwork not shrinking to well. The big positive was that the core message ‘repair is the green alternative to replacement’ works with the general public.
The long awaited PR is still on the cards I need to get quotes from Friends of the Earth (who are being supportive of us and the DTi (who are not) then the journalist can take the story to the editor of the express.
Happy new year,
John

ParticipantHi All,
It’s a while since we have updated this and things have moved on in lots of areas, too much to go into detail on a post so I am going to do another UK tour in June see all agents currently selling ISE to cover the following areas;
1. ISE 10 – I will have a sample machine with me, stock of this Swedish made machine with a 10 year domestic and 3 year light commercial garantee will be available at the end of June.
2. WEEE compliance for ISE customers – I meet DHL shortly to get the individual compliance plans for ISE stockists planning to do retailer takeback. This will allow you to hit the ground running when the WEEE directive goes live on 1st July.
3. Easy payment plan – We have a just completed a deal where ISE 10 and hopefully ISE 5 can be paid for by your customers on a month by month basis over 3 years. We are carrying out a limited trial to make sure the system works, then we will roll it out to everyone.
4. Updated website and marketing material for the above will be available to support the above. If you do not currently sell ISE an wish to know more about it contact us and I will come and see when I am in your area.
Regards
John

ParticipantSorry Lads,
Of course non ISE agents can not see this forum.
I have so much to update you on but do not want to show my hand in public just yet.
I will meet all ISE agents between 5th of June when I meet DHL to confirm WEEE details and the 29th of June ISE 10 will be in the country, WEEE will be about to start and I have some exciting news about the existing ISE machine.
I will be contacting you all this week to make appointments then having a week off (starting with a trip to wembley – sorry Dave), then it really will be game on.
Cheers
John
