Meile T8322 tumble dryer that won’t heat up

I have a Meile T8322 tumble dryer that won’t heat up / dry clothes.

The dryer starts ok and the drum rotates but after running for 3 minutes approx. it starts “bleeping” and the “Cooling down” indicator on the display starts flashing. It then finishes the cycle after another couple of minutes without drying the clothes. The “Cooling down” indicator continues to flash when the dryer stops.

I have tried cleaning out the filter and air vents without success.

Appreciate any help or suggestions that would help me diagnose what might be causing the problem.

check the brushes on top of the drum

also these machines wont heat unless there are enough wet clothes in it

Thanks for the prompt reply Dave.

When you say “check the brushes” do you mean a visual check to see if they are in good condition, or check with a multimeter?

I should have mentioned that the drum is turning ok when you start a drying cycle. Would worn faulty brushes prevent the dryer from blowing hot air?

if the brushes are at the end they may be sparking which could affect motor speed
