I paid for 5 years extended no worry no unexpected bills to Merloni Ariston Indesit or do they call themselves Hotpoint. They took my money and all was well until I needed assistance. My fridge freezer broke – they said it wasnt covered but I had all the warranty detail. Eventually I had to get some one else to fix it and some months later and many letters until I threatened to sue them they then paid the bill.

Now my 3 year old [5 year warranty] washer dryer is broke and there are no spare parts so it has to be replaced. Well that was 6 weeks ago. The tried to tell me that 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} was to be paid for a new Hotpoint as a replacement at £274 when the full retail cost was listed as £495 and most retailers offer 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of that price. They suddenly agreed it should be £150 and if I paid immediately if would be installed with in 6 days. Needless to say I am still chasing them daily awaiting a date for an installation. They just talk a good story but once you have paid give very little back unless you get very angry and threaten them with action that will cost them. I have to deal with them as they supply the new washer and have my money for the extended warranty contract.

    Sue,

I sympathise with your frustration over the 5 year extended warranty problems you are experiencing. A tale we have heard so many times sadly 🙁 . Often when one gets more and more angry with such companies in these circumstances on the telephone, they often become more un-cooperative unfortunately. Often then they make certain statements they know to be untrue but which will pacify the customer in order simple to get them off the phone 🙁

However, the law is on your side, and you have a written contract to prove that fact. Therefore can I suggest rather than more heated telephone calls, contact a local solicitor. They will simple need to see the contract for themselves in order to pursue a formal resolve, which usually is in the form of a letter from them explaining their* legal obligations.

The usual cost of such ‘out of court action’ by your solicitor can be as little as £75. That sum of money added of course to your settlement claim’ 😀

*The company in question by the way has been recently ‘renamed’ The Indesit Company
