Hi guys, just a little info that ive come across today, hotpoint/indesit washing machines used to sell their modules minus the eeprom, the eeprom was sold as a blank ready to be programmed or ready programmed for your model, they are now selling the modules with the eeprom already soldered in but blank! you now need a smart card reader and then a smart card for that model which then flashes/inputs the blank eeprom, the card reader can be used on all models now, surely this is now pushing out the diy repair man on a cost efficient one off repair!

MONTHS behind what we’ve been discussing in the trade forum

ive already got my smartcard reader (over £100)

yep, thats exactly why hotpoint have done it.. and in some ways its good for the independants now, might just help bring the guys some work back eh?

    not all bad is it?

I have suggested to Kelland that he should apply to admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for trade access; thus allowing him to join the party………..

Regular poster Baron from Romania is a very clever electronics engineer who knows a lot about the workings of Merloni electronics. Perhaps he might shed some light on this subject.

That reminds me; I met him over there recently and have not got round to telling you about it. I’ll write a posting in the ‘General Trade’ forum now.

The smart cards are definately ‘write-once’ and generally for use on a new indesit/hotpoint board. If you add together the cost of the 2 and bear in mind that modules don’t always solve the problem, it’s an expensive experiment ! When we charge £39.90+ vat inc eprom already programmed with the option to return the module for £5+vat if it doesn’t sort your problem, then I think these new smart cards are strictly for cash-rich madmen.

Connect have just phoned me offering to supply the smart card reader and the “low end adaptor” part numbers C002522539 and C00255979.

on the bright side… customers wont be messing fitting their own pcb and eprom… just the initial outlay, and youll get more work
