ParticipantRotate the drum, and it sounds like something is scraping against the outside of the inner drum, possibly on the lower section. Can’t see anything obvious through the drum with a flashlight (although that’s not saying much..I can just about make out the heating elements). The drum looks like it’s still centred perfectly…bearings / something shaken loose near the heating elements / some rubbish that’s got out of the inner drum but not made it to the outlet filter?
can the plastic ‘ridges’ on the inner drum be removed, and if they were would that give a window on the outer drum area?
any pointers gratefully received.

Probably a bra wire!!! We engineers love ’em!!
To locate it, press a powerful torch against the drum holes and swing the drum back and forth – this will give a better view of the outer drum. If you can see it (and if it is noisy, it is touching the drum) you may be able with the help of a small screwdriver, to hook one of the ends back up through the drum and pull out with pliers. Loads of patience required!!
If you can’t locate it, it is probably jammed under the heater. The only surefire way is to remove the back half of the machine, remove the heater and extract the wire through the heater hole.
Don’t try to remove the drum paddles – they are secured by bent metal lugs inside the drum – not easy to refit. (and a huge probability that you will break them). Avoid.
If you have removed the heater and still can’t find the obstruction, it will probably be a screw or stone that has found its way down between the front of the drum pressed rim and the outer drum. To remove something from here is involved and will require professional assistance. 😉 Using the machine with this particular problem will result in gouging of the plastic outer tub and subsequent expensive failure.Power off before any inspection starts. :plug:
Hope that helps,
Steve.

fantastic help, as ever on here. The missus claims no bra wires are missing, so I shall persevere with the torch to identify the item responsible.
thanks once again!
edit…it was the latter – some metallic toy part in a ridge at the front of the inner drum. fished it out with a folded bit of thin plastic, a bit of cardboard and a lot of swearing. kids, eh :rolls:
