ParticipantWhen thinking about a Microwave, there’s really only 3 things I care about:
1/ Does it heat evenly
2/ Is it easy to start.
3/ Does NOT contain an oven. I never, ever, EVER used this. Waste of money, complicates things. (I have a separate oven for this.)In particular: in my current house, the fancyish Neff microwave+oven:
1/ Does NOT heat evenly, at least at 1000W I will always have to stir halfway, or way overheat the food.
-> Perhaps a turntable fixes this, but they are hard to clean and most modern builtin microwaves don’t have this function. Is there no modern microwave that evenly heats?2/ Again, my current neff, I have to: 1/ Press the Microwave button 2/ Press the Microwave button AGAIN (now it is ready, gah this is SO dumb) 3/ Press the power button, 4/ Select amount of minutes with the dial, 5/ press start
-> My old, 50 quid countertop microwave I had as a student I just would press start, and it would just microwave at max for 30 seconds. If I wanted more time, just turn the time dial up to a few more minutes.I suspect the ‘evenly cooking’ bit is not (yet) within range of modern technology, but are modern neff devices at least better about the amount of stuff you have to do before it actually starts cooking? Any other brands to recommend?

ModeratorSounds like you have what is called a flatbed microwave but without the ENR and FD number I cannot be sure. Possibly you have a stirrer fan in the roof. I would always go with a turntable model. If you want a good microwave then look at Sharp in freestanding or Bosch Neff in the integrated. 98{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all microwaves these days have touch controls which can give you many options.

ParticipantIntegrated microwaves with turntable are actually somewhat hard to find, and many people claim they are actually inferior technology to the stirrer fans, but well, fact is that my neff flatbed indeed “sucks at stirring”. Hrm. Difficult.

ModeratorThe number of flat beds out there is probably only 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} if that of all microwaves. in fact most of Bosch/ Neff and Siemens ( all same company) all have turntables with only a few flat beds.
Another option to consider is Whirlpool and Hotpoint.

Apologies, totally missed this message.
enr C57M70N3GB/39Anyway the main thing I’m arriving at is that with my cooking style I certainly use an oven but in my 30+ years of cooking for myself experience I have never needed two ovens at the same time, so I will take one proper oven, and one dedicated microwave.
So I’ve been looking for microwave-only. Here’s a common neff one:

This might be for efficiency reasons but with a 31cm turntable you certainly can’t comfortably microwave a full family meal.
