Hi Raw
To be honest..why the hell would you need to carry out a leak test ?.
IF there was any chance of a leak then either the door has to be open approx. 1″ If that was the case then it wouldn’t work because the doors open.Or a hole approx. 1″ for a leak to be there.I’m sure you would notice either of these 2 points.
Also bear in mind that the inside cavity is specifically tuned for the wave to bounce round the internal cavity,IF there was any deviance in the size then the wave would deteriorate.

Appreciate the problem but Im with Bryan – I have a leakage tester but in 20 years in the business I have never had a domestic m/w show any leakage

He may need to satisfy his insurance.
Another useless Regulation placed by the EU, policed solely in the UK, the rest choose to ignore them. Today the locking devices work, tomorrow is another day yet in the UK the law believes these tests can predict the future.

in all the times i did microwave repairs and it was somtimes 10 a day, i have only failed 2 for leakage and they both had the inner door grid missing, so a good visual check and pat test should be ok, but as lee8 suggests it may be part of the requirement for insurance, the leakage detecters are not really an expensive piece of test equipment so if you can get a few landlords on board its worth the investment.

Name and shame please.
Not many brands engineers carry M/W leak testers.

Had a couple of high powered commercials leak years ago, look at the air ventilation holes, waves can’t get out of them.
WE did the first Tappan ones which had rusting linings but they didn’t seem to leak even when the casing looked really poor.April 9, 2012 at 9:32 pm #372947whiskey_six

A lot of shop own brand labels from the big sheds can show leaks. Come across loads during the last couple of years. All made in PRC

I can not name and shame,Sorry it would cost me way to much and they would know the source. Lets just say check the seals on the Chinese/badged up ones they do know about it! They are coming straight out the factory with the doors not properly sealed. I am just trying to warn you so you keep your eyes open for it they are definitely failing the leakage test.
Lee8 i think from some of your comments in the past you know one of the companies but as you can imagine it is a bit all hush hush especially seeing that the majority of engineers as you say do not carry testers so they would never know of the problems.Phil

I was very surprised to read some of the posts above. I repair microwaves for a living and do leak test them. I have two types of meter – the Celtek A100 and the Apollo X1 and get them calibrated each year. I cannot believe that some people would say “why bother?”
Still, each to their own I suppose. Maybe I was brought up in a different era, or just trained by a responsible manufacturer.

Begins with a B then. :rotfl:
I thought they only had a vent issue on the integrated ones, causing too much condensation on the door even when using low moisture foods.
Haven’t been told about leakage, that’s interesting.

GerrySome believe children should wear impact glasses when playing with conkers or trapeze performers should wear head gear. :rotfl:
You’ve just been the victim of probability vs improbability by the fukwit police.
The chances are very slim, the visual inspection should be sufficient unless the design of the appliance is flawed.
