ParticipantHi all.
We have a Sanyo combi microwave oven where the microwave function doesn’t work. It suddenly failed. It appears to be cooking fine, but nothing heats up.
A bit of research suggests that it could be the HV fuse that’s blown, a diode that’s blown, or perhaps the magnetron needs to be replaced.
I will NOT being doing any of these repairs myself, as I feel that high voltage electronics should only be messed with by people who are properly trained and experienced.
I realise that since nobody out there can see my actual oven, it’s only possible to talk from general statistics. But, I’d like to ask whether there is a sizeable chance that my oven can be repaired at a cost significantly less than that of buying a new one. E.g. if there’s a 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance of a successful repair, then I wouldn’t. But, if the chance of a successful repair is 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, then I most definitely would.
In general, when microwaves fail in the way I describe, how likely is it that a repair is feasible?
Edit: I believe that our oven is a Sanyo EM-C8787B, as it looks the same. I can check the actual model number this evening.

Check that model number carefully as those ovens have been the subject of a serious safety recall.
Also effective repair would be your 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} option but viability against the cost of a replacement debatable.

Thanks for the reply.
Our combination microwave was not covered by the recall. We have a lower serial number than the affected ovens.
A local repairman is going to supply us with a quote for repair. I’ll compare that against the cost of a new oven. As only the microwave is broken, we could replace it with a normal microwave and continue using the non-microwave functions on the Sanyo.
