Hi, our Miele no longer seems to be working and the customer support want to charge me £59 just for a phone call as ask for advice.
Can anybody give me some trouble shooting advice please?
It starts to work and makes the right, noise. A top orange light goes on, then a bottom red light goes on. Then all three top orange lights flash, this is not normal. I can still hear a noise. But then eventually the noise stops, the orange lights keep flashing.
Assuming it’s trying to fill the machine up with water. Guessing the electric panel is working (no fault codes because it’s too old). I don’t know how to fix dishwashers, on this model what is the first thing that needs to happen in order to fill it with water?
Valve opening, some pump needing to work, device to measure water level?

first thing that happens on any dishwasher is it pump out
then it starts to fill. since the fill can be quiet you need to open the door to check if it is or is not

after its full it starts the wash motor

miss any of these steps or if there is a fault with any step machine aborts and pumps out any water

find the owners manual and see if that helps

if not post a pic of the panel with the lights on when it stops
these will be a fault code hopefully

Hi Dave, thank you so much for your help.
No fault code as 2009 is too old 🙂
    The Manuel says “Technical fault”.

I have turn it off and on again lots of times and tried it. I’ve cleaned the filter, take an off the non-returned valve (it looks ok), and gently turn the propeller to the drain valve.

I have noticed that when I’ve tried to turn it on, although it’s still doesn’t work, it sounds worse. Before it sounded like it was trying to, I just never heard the swooshing noises of it filling up all the water spraying out. Now the attempted to start noise sounds even quieter and worse than before.

Does this mean it’s something to do with a dream pump??

Adele it’s the water inlet blocked because I feel like I used to be able to hear some water coming in. Although I don’t hear that now.

I have included a photo for your enjoyment, but no fault codes 🙂

there are fault codes but Miele hide them

you have to get into service mode to find them

but first check there no water in the base of the machine in the anti flood float

pull the machine out and gently and slowly tilt the machine backwards till its at about 45 degrees and look for water appearing on the floor. if yes you have a leak and you need to find it

the nearest i can find to a service manual is this

Thankyou for the Manuel, I’m starting to have a read.

I pulled it out, managed to tilt it about 40 degrees back (using my childs protractor), and small amount of water started pooling.

Do you have advice on the next step please?
From the Manuel, there are 2 inlet valves for safety. If one fails, other closes.

If there is a leak in the intake hose, the float switch will operate from the drip tray. But that doesn’t explain why I can still hear the noises of it attempting to work. Once valve(s) shut off, wouldn’t the machine know to stop operating?

For the first operation of the machine, it fills up with mains water until a certain quantity of water has been achieved (water sensor, or other method if needed). Then (I’ve not read anymore) wouldn’t it then do a first cycle to rinse dishes with cold water. Then pump it way. So unlikely the pump, as the machine didn’t even get a chance to fill up yet?

have you tried it since you removed the water

after it fills up the wash pump should start unless it still thinks the water is not going in
as for water detector early ones used a pressure switch and later ones use a reed switch unit in the water intake that measures the water intake

Yes, I keep trying it a few times a day.
It never fills, just makes a noise. No more water inside it.

ok you need to find out whats making the noise am assuming its the drain pump

have you tried tilting it as its making the noise. not to 45 degrees like before just lift the front 2 inches off the floor
what i am trying to find out if there is still a small amoung of water in the base , just enough to trip the safety float. if you lift it the water will move and the noise may stop but then restart when you put it down

Hello again, my husband came back and did some investigating. He got fault code “51”, then tracked it to a relay. Took it out, using an ohmmeter he tried to test the relay by checking for continuity on the solenoid coil, but it didn’t seem to have any. But registered as having some resistance.

How do we know if the relay needs to be replaced please?

the only way you can test a relay is to power it up

most relays need DC. if you look at the numbers on the relay and search it you should be able to find it . after you remove the relay you can power it up with the correct voltage and see if the contacts close with a multi meter

assume you have checked the water is turned on also find the fill solenoid and check that has not gone, expect to get 3K ohm or there abouts
