    Hi,

I have a telescopic extension rod (Miele p/n 09265991) which has suddenly (and I mean was fine yesterday and is now useless) started collapsing.

The rod won’t take any forward pressure without the ratchet slipping, it is however steady as a rock in the other direction. It doesn’t appear to be a problem with the track on the rod as no one hole is any better/worse than any other. So the issue appears to be at the locking mechanism.

I have popped off the button, but the mechanism itself seems to be firmly locked down and I can’t get into it. Do I need to replace the whole extension tube (@£55)?

I have seen a couple of vague mentions on-line that the problem might be solved with a button repair kit (p/n 5780932 – £10). When I apply some firm pressure to the locking mechanism with my thumb it is steady in both directions, so it might be that the spring is shot and needs replacing with the repair kit.

Has anyone else had this issue and solved it?

    TIA,

    Zeb

    Hi

We wouldn’t carry out a repair like that as with the labour charge a new set of rods would be a similar price. If you don’t really need the adjustable rods then simply replace them with the standard push fit static ones. If you give us the model number S??? we will be able to give you the correct diameter size.

Thanks, if push comes to shove (or not in this case) I will just drill through the tube and bolt it into place to make a static tube.
