ParticipantI’ve searched the Forum without luck so hope someone with technical knowledge can help.
Our 3 yr old Miele F12020S freezer was defrosted but would not restart. (There is no damage to the inner casing from the defrosting process). On power up the control panel displays one flash of twin bars then displays the last set temperature of -18deg but no sign of life from the motor.
Continuity is OK across all 3 motor pins after unplugging the relay pack. The temperature sensor responds to changes in the +18 to +22deg range and measures in Kohms so the thermister appears to be OK.On the Control Panel pcb the 0.68uF 275V capacitor was only about 0.4uF but replacing that made no difference. I still suspect the control panel pcb but would like the view of someone with experience before I buy one as it is not likely to be cheap.
It has what I take to be a Liebherr part number of 6113 231 00 and similar boards listed on this site are £70 to £100. If I call Miele out at £117, plus the cost of a pcb (if that is the problem) I might as well scrap the freezer and buy a new cheaper one for the same cost. Many thanks.

I am not familiar enough with these units other than enough to say that the PCBs rarely fail. This applies to all Liebherr built units I have encountered, the boards are normally rock solid, they are extremely uncommon to fail in my experience.
The trouble is of course that we cannot translate a Miele model to a Liebherr one other than by pure chance and, Miele aren’t exactly forthcoming with tech info. In fact, you’d have more luck conclusively proving that aliens are being kept in Area 51 than getting tech on a Miele product.
If the compressor will not start then it’s more likely that the starting device or compressor has failed but, again, on all these units they are generally speaking absolutely reliable as well.
Anything is possible of course.

Hi kwatt – Thanks for the reply. Yes my on line searches had led me to the conclusion that Miele are a dark force as far as information goes.
As well as checking the motor for continuity I had tried a new starter capacitor and the overheat sensor was not open circuit but I am not sure how to check out the starter relay as it has a small pcb of its own.
Frustrating as I like mending things not throwing them away!

I the last year I have replaced two control boards on Miele side by sides so dont rule this out.

It was indeed a faulty Control Panel pcb.
Although it is a Leibher part their UK agent was totally unhelpful and refused point blank to supply me as an owner, although they reluctantly agreed that they recognised the part number. So I had to go to Miele who were happy to supply the part although it cost me just under £80 including £6 P&P. Two days later I had a working freezer again. At least I saved the £117 Miele call out fee and I will never buy a Liebherr brand product after the experience with their UK agent. -
