ParticipantHi,
Can someone advise me please, my gran has a Miele fridge freezer which has an issue with the freezer.
The temperature display shows minus 39 but ice cream won’t stay frozen, she has said that if frozen food is put in certain drawers it will stay frozen.
I am going there tomorrow to see if I can repair it myself, I am an electrician and have read the basic operation principles of how a freezer works but have no experience of repairing freezers.
Would someone be kind enough to give me a few pointers as to what I should look for and any obvious signs that will determine what a certain fault might be.Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi
Turn the appliance off with the doors left open for 24 hrs then restart as normal.Ths will normally cure 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of problems. If after this you still have problems then come back.

Hi, i’m back again, the fridge freezer was defrosted and re-started and the problem is still there, difference is now I have seen problem first hand and I have model number etc.
The fridge is working nicely at 6 degree’s, the freezer is showing minus 33 but only the bottom drawer is frozen, the middle drawer is semi frozen and the top drwawer is less again.
I notice some sort of sensor at the back which I presume tells the freezer it’s temperature, then I took the back cover off to expose the fan and the cold radiator type equipment. This was cold and had some frost on it but not excessive, I also noticed the fan didn’t run at any point but I also noticed what looked like a magnetic switch on a pcb which I assume switches the fan.Anyway can anyone tell me two things 1. is it imperative to keep freezer cold to have fan running 2. Will fan only work when door is shut
The fridge freezer is Miele kf 7542 sn
Thanks

Hi
The fan should run when the door is closed.it could be either the fan motoer or PCB.

Thank you Bryan for your reply I just a need a little bit more information if you don’t mind.
Is the fan switched by the magnetic switch coming in to contact with the door seal, which I presume is magnetic. Also if the freezer is showing minus 33 and obviously it’s not at that temperature could a possibility be that the sensor that is hanging inside the freezer compartment could be faulty ?
The fridge freezer is 7 years old is that a typical life span of a fridge freezer? The fridge itself seems to work fine and the freezer is cold at the bottom half so does that suggest the fan?
Thanking you in advance for any advice.

Hi
Yes the fan is turned on by the magnet operating a reed switch. The sensor shouldnt be hanging down there is a clip /holder for it somewhere near.the sensor could be faulty if its been caught by baskets excetra.Yes it does look like a fan fault. But i’m not there. The lifespan is normally longer for the Miele/leibherr fridge freezers (same factory same make).

hardly likely to be a fan fault, as the display is showing -33!
you could have two faults with this appliance.
firstly, it’s not cooling sufficiently in the freezer and then the display is showing -33.
alternatively, it could be the sensor sending duff info to the pcb, in which case, if the board thinks it’s -33, then it won’t be operating properly.
it could also be the board mis-reading the info from the sensor, but
in terms of probability, it’s likely to be the sensor.
there is a diagnostic sequence that can be accessed via the electronics. this allows you to check all the components in the appliance, particularly the sensor readings, which can be cross referrred against resistance readings from the sensors.
time for an engineer’s visit really.
at 7 years old, the miele fridge should still have plenty of life in it.March 8, 2009 at 9:26 pm #279115allewtor

Hi,
Just one more thing if you don’t mind, I spoke to Miele who said that if they send an engineer he will have six components that he could change to rectify my problem.
Below is the list of six items can anyone tell me exactly what they are and where I can purchase them.
1 x Temperature Sensor – £18.12
2 x Temperature Sensor – £13.46
1 x Temperature Sensor – £21.501 x Electronic Component – £126.54
1 X Electronic Component – £100.53These prices are all exclusive of VAT.
Thanks once again
