ParticipantWhen the dishwasher starts, it runs the drain pump as usual and then just hangs when it should be filling with water but isn’t. It has an aquastop type fill valve and I have taken the cover off that and tested it with meter and it is not getting any power from the machine to open the valve at the point when the machine should be filling. I have replaced the pressure switch but it has not made any difference…still no pwer to the valve. I have tested the door switch and it’s fine. What’s the most likely cause? Capacitor? Circuit board? An internal fuse I don’t know about, Something else? Thanks for your help in advance. Peter

ParticipantThanks.
I’ll test that now.November 26, 2020 at 6:48 pm #473491Buildclean
Participantok so I have tested it and it does not have an open circuit. I get a reading of around 1900
I put the machine on its side, took off the base plate, disconnected the valve electrical load plug and then tested the feed plug that it connects to ie the one which is part of the machine loom and detected the following:
1. When the machine is plugged in and switched on (but no programme initiated) there IS power reaching the feed plug. (volt stick beeps)
2. If a program is started with the machine on its side, the drain pump fires up as normal and the power is switched off to the feed plug. The drain pump stops after about 15 secs or so but there is still no power to this plug
3. If the programme is cancelled and the machine is then turned off using the fascia button, the power returns to the feed plug after about 15secsJust to let you know, we originally had an F78 error code and took the circulation pump out to clear the debris that was fouling the impeller. Once we put it all back together again we had the problem with the machine not filling. I’ve checked all the other plugs to make sure they have been put back correctly and they have.
Any help would be appreciated!November 26, 2020 at 8:15 pm #473492electrofix
Moderatordo you get any fault codes now ?
Dave

ParticipantThe machine runs the drain pump and then does nothing when it should be filling for around a minute and then we get an f78 again

Moderatorwell thats a circulation pump problem as far as i can see
miele tech can be hard so cant be certain
check all the connections to the pump and any other connections around you may have pulled when you cleaned out the impeller

Participantall connections fine.
If I take the pump out again is there a way to test it with a meter to see if it’s broken electrically?
Cheers

ParticipantDid you get anywhere with resolving this fault? I have the same dishwasher and fairly similar symptoms, ongoing for about two years now. In detail –
I have a G5620 SC dishwasher that is a little over seven years old. Frequently (almost always) the Pots and Pans programme completely halts at certain points, typically at the end of the pre wash (about 20 minutes into the programme) and then again with about 1 hour 13 mins left and again with about 52 minutes left also again with 35 mins left. This coincides with periods when the machine is pumping out, and happens at the end of the pump-out. However there is no complete failure of pumping out – the machine is capable of pumping out water at a reasonable rate. However the pumping out sometimes continues for longer than one might expect – after the flow of water has ceased. My impression is that other programmes behave similarly, grinding to a halt after pumping out.Usually the programme can be re-started by any action which shuts off and re-connects the power – eg mains socket switch, On/Off switch on machine, or just opening and closing the door. Sometimes it is necessary to keep the power off for about 1 minute, until there is a very faint sound (maybe a relay resetting?) from the vicinity of the top of the door, where the PCB is housed. Once this sound has been heard, the dishwasher can be re-started by turning on the power again. I am also getting an F78 error code periodically, again associated with cessation of progress through a programme, but the F78 code is only generated occasionally, not every time I run a programme. The pressure switch has just been changed, as it was leaking (but it made no difference to the fault discussed here) and the one way valve (ball bearing) has just been checked and was found to be unobstructed. Any assistance appreciated.
It may be useful to add that throughout the two year period that I’ve lived with this fault, the basic functions of taking in water, heating water, spraying water, and pumping out water all appear to be, in general, operational – the machine just grinds to a halt sometimes as previously described.

ModeratorF78 is a main pump fault
have you checked the wash pump for blockages etc
Dave

ParticipantHello Dave
I haven’t checked the circulation pump for blockages – presumably I’ll need to remove it from the machine and disassemble the rotor to do this?James

Moderatorcorrect you need to gain acess to the pump input and look at the impellor

ParticipantThanks – will give that a try. Incidentally I don’t get an email to alert me when you have added to this thread, although according to my notification settings I should do – and I did receive a couple of other emails relating to this website. I was hoping that Peter (‘Buildclean’) who started this thread would let us know where he got to with his problem – but maybe he’s not getting notifications either.
