ParticipantSome of you may remember that my very nice, very expensive Miele G6825 SCi XXL dishwasher developed a leak back and threw up a “Waterproof” error around 2 Nov 2020. I had some very helpful advice on this forum, and found out that the problem was that one of the channels in the water treatment unit was clogged up with some black stuff – mold or debris or something. I flushed this out, put everything back together, and all was right with the world. For about a month.
Around the end of November, the unit developed an “F51” fault and would not function. I decided that my DIY approach wasn’t working, so I called Miele for a service visit. Right off the bat we weren’t communicating well – I told them I wanted a fixed price repair for £250, they claim they told me I would have to pay for that in advance while my understanding was that I would simply have to commit to that in advance. In any case, they sent a technician on 11 Dec under a “labour + parts” agreement.
On arrival, the Miele tech tried replacing a relay which he said was the most common reason for the F51 error. This didn’t make a difference, the machine still gave an F51 error. The tech said the problem was likely another part which he had requested from Miele a week prior, but which they hadn’t sent him in time. During that service visit, there was a big power short in the dishwasher. Loud “popping” sound and the smell of burning. From that moment on, the dishwasher wouldn’t power up at all.
The tech said he’d come back with the delayed part. Miele set that appointment for 23 Dec. But on 22 Dec they called me to say they were still waiting on the part, and they rescheduled the service visit for 13 Jan. Then today (12 Jan) they have once again called to say they are waiting on the part – this is the third delay.
And in the meantime, they think I should pay for the electrical short and all of the parts that were destroyed during the service visit on 11 Dec.
So now I have had no dishwasher for 2 months, I really don’t know when my machine will actually work, and I am looking at a huge repair bill. I’m not sure what my options are, other than to tell Miele to go to hell and buy something else. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Should I just throw in the towel and buy a Bosch?
(I should point out that I bought this dishwasher new in Nov 2017, for around £1200. We are only a family of 3 and we pre-rinse most of our dishes, so I have no idea why such an expensive dishwasher would develop such significant faults only 3 years into its life)

Moderatorwhat caused the power short ?
as for the part delay you can probably thank Brexit for that. We are all having problems

ParticipantIf the power short issue occurred while the Miele tech was in attendance I’d be telling them that he must have caused it as it only happened once he had been inside the machine. Miele expecting you to pay for that is outrageous behaviour in my opinion.
It’s stories like this that give Miele a bad name. Their products seem well designed and made, but behaviour like this would stop me from buying any of their larger products (I do have one of their vacuum cleaners, which is a great bit of kit).January 13, 2021 at 10:02 am #474408electrofix

ParticipantThanks for your replies! I’ve had some really good news, which is that after lots of letters and telephone calls and emails, Miele finally responded to a negative review on Trustpilot. In the end they have agreed to pay for the entire cost of the repair.
Bad news is that they are STILL waiting on a power control unit from Germany, so I still have no end date in sight for getting my dishwasher back in service.
Dave, to answer your questions, I think that the engineer was either employed directly by Miele or contracted by them. He wore a Miele uniform and had Miele paperwork, although he lives in a village not far from here.
I’m not entirely certain that the power shortage was his fault. When he arrived, he opened up the bottom of the dishwasher to check that everything was dry. As we hadn’t run the machine for several weeks, everything was bone dry inside. Then he took the unit out and swapped out the pressure control relay for a new one (this was, he said, the most common reason for an F51 error message). That didn’t change anything so at some point he lay the dishwasher on its back, checked a few other connections, and then put the machine upright again. He wanted to order a new logic board I think, so he was buttoning everything up when a screw rolled out of sight.
He went out to his van to get a new screw, and just as he walked back in the kitchen door there was an electrical pop and a burning smell. No one was touching the dishwasher at that time. The engineer was frustrated that it had happened, but I’m not sure what he did that caused it (or what he didn’t do that might have prevented it).
My guess is that there was a little water somewhere and during the process of tipping the machine onto it’s back and setting it upright, this little bit of water got into the power system and caused a short.
Anyway, now that Miele is going to cover the cost of the repair, it doesn’t matter who was at fault here. I’m glad that in the end Miele is being supportive and helpful – and I’m hopeful that we’ll have the dishwasher working again soon.
Thanks once again for your helpful thoughts here, I’ll update this thread when things are working so that anyone searching for this fault code in the future can get some information.

Moderatorto be honest i was suprised miele were not being supportive
had a customer who had a 6 year old miele dishwasher, there was a crack in the stainless which was probably a weak point in manufacture
Miele acknowledged this and offered the customer 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off a new one which she accepted
