ParticipantI’ve had a Miele dishwasher (Miele G6890 SCVi K20) for 3 months, and this replaces a cheap Zanussi. The problem I have is random items ending up in the drain pump. This includes a rivet from a knife handle, a fixing from a saucepan handle and various small pieces of plastic. Each time the pump becomes very noisy. I’m removing something every other week. This never occurred once over 14 years with the Zanussi.
I’m interested if:
– Other Miele owners see the same.
– There is a workaround for the problem. In the sump under the micro filter there is a path into the drain pump. What puzzles me is that there is nothing stopping the items passing down through the micro filter. There’s a sort of catch pot in the middle but clearly not effective. I would post a photo but I’m limited on my upload size.
Here is an example of the Miele micro filter: https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/04011464-miele-dishwasher-microfilter.The micro filter on my old Zanussi had a cap on the top and this caught any such items from going down into the sump. Here’s an example of that micro filter: https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/1118754108-zanussi-electrolux-aeg-dishwasher-filter.
Why does the Miele filter allow solids to pass down to the drain pump? Is the intention that some solids will be pumped down the drain?
It seems I need a similar ‘pepper pot’ cap on the Miele micro filter, like I had with the Zanussi.

Thanks for the quick response, this is good to know.
I’ve even dropped small items down the centre of the filter just to show they can end up in the pump. Maybe if you ignore the noise for long enough they eventually go out the drain pipe.

ParticipantIf you are using Miele wash tablets they disolve aluminum rivets.
In fact anything aluminium.December 4, 2020 at 9:51 pm #466174don
ModeratorI am sure the OP has sorted his query on his issue which he reported back in January this year as he has not returned with any further info. Miele must have sorted it for him.

ParticipantHi, Thanks for continuing this thread. I apologise for not updating the solution to the problem before now. In my original post I linked to pictures of the Miele filter and also an example of what I considered a good filter from my previous Zanussi machine. Luckily I kept an old cutlery basket and used this to fashion an insert for the top of the Miele filter (Zanussi style). This solved the problem for me and it hasn’t occurred since. Bits and pieces get caught at the top of the filter and I have to remove these when cleaning. I was interested to hear about the Miele tablets dissolving aluminium parts, because this was clearly happening to me. The machine came from the Miele outlet and I was able to obtain a large amount of the Miele tablets when I purchased it. I couldn’t work out what was happening with the knife rivets. Now I’m on whatever they have in CostCo and I don’t recall losing any more rivets.
