ParticipantHi,
We’ve had this vented dryer for a number of years, can’t remember how long, but it’s definitely no longer under warranty. It has proved reliable as have had no problems with it till now – it is no longer heating up, When starting a new load the lit up display suggests that the dryer is going to start, but within minutes just starts flickering. On opening the back couldn’t find a reset button but noticed that the base was full of water.
The dryer is located in the garage on top of our washing machine and I had incorrectly thought that the washing machine was the cause of the water leaking in the floor.
I called out an engineer to provide a quote but he hasn’t been able to work out what’s wrong with it. I would appreciate some advice from the experts in this forum as to whether it is worthwhile pursuing a repair or to cut our losses and buy a new machine.? In which case I could do with some guidance on what brand and models to consider. I’m looking for a mid range reliable model as can’t afford to buy another Miele. Would need a vented machine about eight kg drum, which can sit on top of our washing machine in the garage.
Any input greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Chloe

If the vent hosepipe goes upwards then it could well be condensation draining back into the dryer.

Also it’s a sensor dryer with a timed option on it. Which means that the sensors won’t work if the temperature in the garage is below 20 odd degrees.
Does the timed dryer option still work?
For a replacement you would still need to go for a timed dryer unless the garage is heated of course.

It’s been in the garage from the start and we’ve never had any problems with it. The garage isn’t heated. I haven’t checked the timer timer option. When the repair engineer came out he left the pipe off. I’ll get it plugged back and check if that works. Could you please recommend a reliable replacement model/brand? Thanks for your help.

He couldn’t work it out, he had expected it to be a quick reset but that function wasn’t there. He said he needed to go away and research it, he did wonder if it was the hearing element but didn’t seem too sure about it. That was over a week ago, said he would get back to me in a couple of days. I’. He seemed to be flummoxed by it. Also didn’t understand why the base was filled with water.

Think you need a better engineer
if he thought is was the element why did he not test it ?
there are relays in the machine that activate the heaters and these fail and that’s a cheap fix
look here for a local engineer
