ParticipantHi I have a Miele Frige / Frezer as above and it still working fine but the drainage hole insde the fridge at the back is blocked. It started when it kept freezing in the groove leading up to the tray but I cleared the ice to find that the water will not run away. I have tried poking gently with a straw but that hasnt helped. I don’t want to break it completly but I am getting the water collecting on the bottom of the fridge which is annoying as is has no where else to go. I have had it about 6 years so I am not sure its worth calling out an engineer. Any adivice would be gratfully recieved. Thanks

Hi Debbie1234,
Have you tried pouring warm water down the hole or letting the unit defrost and then attempting to dislodge it? Usually if some food falls down there then ice will freeze around it, so a combination of defrosting, heat and poking can be required 🙂
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the hot water to no avail so I will try to defrost when I have sonme time. I was worried about defrosting it as it currently still works and I keep reading about people with error messages or when it wont freeze any more.

Happy to help 🙂
I think defrost might be your only way forward on this one but it’s always a pain to have to do that! You might find that an old wire coat-hanger is pretty useful for bending to the right shape and unblocking the hole.
Hope you get it sorted.

Getting the ice out of the drain hole and pipe can be problematic. When you get rid of all the visible ice and you’re left with ice in the pipe, put some hot (not boiling) water on it then remove the water (syringe or turkey basters work well) Keep removing the water, adding hot water verbatim until it clears. No use just adding hot water as it won’t get passed the cold water on top of the ice without removing it first. Hope that helps.
