I’m looking for some advice for my Miele dual compressor fridge-freezer KFN8997SEed, approximately 18 years old.

In recent years, the drain outlet for the freezer defrost water is icing up with increasing frequency, causing ice to build up under the bottom drawer. Each time, I have defrosted the freezer for 24 hours. I have also cleared some debris that had accumulated in the outlet nozzle.

Am I correct in assuming that the increased frequency of the drain icing up is likely due to the compressor having to run for extended periods due to loss of efficiency? I suspect a factor may be that in earlier years, my kids often left the freezer door slightly ajar after fetching an ice cream, not wide wide enough to trigger the door open alarm

If it’s freezing inside the case, it could be caused by an insulation breakdown and, at 18 years old, that’d not be unthinkable by any stretch.

Thanks for the suggestion. The walls and evaporator are completely clear of ice, but the short drain outlet is blocking with ice causing the defrost water to overspill onto the base of the freezer where it slowly builds up. I’m thinking I ought to check out that drain tube more closely before condemning the whole appliance
