Miele Novotronic W828 “main wash” light is sometimes flashing. Cycle completes normally, and clothes seem to be clean. Problem does not happen every wash. Machine is 15-20 years old and has been problem free up to now.

I suspect the heating element is either failing or covered in scale and so can’t heat properly, or the temperature sensor is not sensing properly.

I’m confident I can fix this if someone can give me any suggestions about how to diagnose it further, or what is the most common cause of the main wash light flashing.

    cheers

    F8=
    Main Wash flashing
Heating error, check heater, NTC, heater relay, connections etc

Open or short circuit in the NTC temperature sensor or its connections.

    Thanks.

What is the resistance of a good element?

    what does NTC stand for?

    cheers

NTC = Negative temperature coefficient (the resistance decreases with increasing temperature)
Resistance of element should be approx’ 30 ohms, obviously it will vary dependant on wattage of said element.
2kw element should read 28.8 ohms
