Please can anyone offer advice with this problem. We bought the machine in 1999 and had no problems apart from a doorseal pierced by bra underwiring.
This last few weeks the machine has occasionally stopped mid-cycle, with and without lights on the front control panel. A thump on the door or switching off/on fixed it.
Unfortunately, as of last night, the problem is now a regular and seemingly permanent occurrence and no amount of thumping the door/switching off then on makes any difference. It doesn’t happen on a particular cycle or at a particular stage of a cycle.
We had the machine on a 1hour 20 minutes cycle overnight and it stopped with 12 minutes still showing on the display. The water had drained so I switched off and did a manual door release.
When I switched on again – nothing, no display lights. Power supply is ok.
I turned off the power and removed the door interlock which seemed to be ok mechanically with just an amount of fluff etc. which I cleaned. There were no scorch marks.
When I replaced it and switched on the display lit up so I put on a 30 minute wash. It packed in half way through, and no display. I switched off, drained the machine and manually released the door; of course the washing was still wet. I pressed the on-switch and it came on, so I put it on 6 minute spin. After 2 minutes -dead again.

Well, this morning I got an email from UKWG saying they had now got the part in stock for delivery within 2-3 working days at a cost of £68.78 inc. vat+delivery, so I ordered it. I don’t think that’s too bad after eight and a half years use but , of course, I’d prefer not to have to pay it. The machine has been usd up to three times a day, every day; apart from our own laundry, we have six dogs and when it rains (when does it not) their filthy towels have to be washed. That means the door has been opened and closed about 10,000 times. I suppose now someone will say their 30 years old machine has not needed a new interlock after 30,000 openings/closings. Maybe I’m just unlucky.

If that doesn’t cure it get back me & i’ll try to take you through some checks. I’d have gone for faulty on/off switch from experience but hope its door interlock switch.
