My Miele S5000 which i purchased nearly 10 years ago has hasnt been used that much over the years. However, while having a good vacuum up of dust before my daughter visited the motor all of 8) a sudden started making a very unhealthy noise and an electrical smell emitted too. There is still good suction there. I need to open up the motor end and see if anything can be replaced as i dont like chucking anything away if it can be fixed. Make do and mend. Does anyone know what is needed to open the thing up? It is somehow clipped together. No screws to undo. Cheers. 8)

if the motor has gone its a complete motor only, no parts available and a very silly price

Ok cheers Dave. Feel abit gutted to chuck something away 🙁 It still works and has suction but sounds horrendous.

Hi. I’ve stripped and refurbished Miele S5 cylinder machines before, it’s quite easy.

I made a rebuild thread on one here – http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/ … 787.0.html which may help.

    My guess would be:

Dirty motor fan causing the motor to run out of balance (easy fix)
Worn carbon brushes (not quite so easy as I don’t think you can get carbon brushes on their own)
    Commutor worn down (unfixable)

At least you can have a look and check yourself!

    Sam
