ParticipantHello forum!
As per title, we have a T230C that used to dry fine. It still dries, but it never turns off!
Even on the low heat setting the clothes seem to get really hot, the indicator moves down to “Hand Iron” but never any further. I wondered if it was just because of the mixed fabrics on my last load so today I did a large cotton towel, but it ran for over an hour and didn’t turn off although the towel was bone dry.
We’ve not had any problems with it up until now although the bearings are starting to grumble and I believe on this model the bearing is integral with the drum and cannot be replaced cheaply so I’m loathed to spend too much fixing this problem as when the bearing fails completely we may buy a new machine.
I’ve made sure the “Extra Dry” setting isn’t enabled, and checked for blockages anywhere.
Is there anything else I can check? Where is the sensor that senses the moisture content? Can this be cleaned or replaced?
Many Thanks,
Dan

One of the sensors will have failed, so the pcb is no longer reading the temperature gradient between the front and the rear – it probably thinks the laundry is still damp.
If you are a little patient, one of the Miele chaps will give you a more definitive answer. Bear in mind that this is a Miele appliance – if it needs parts, you’re going to pay. Lots.

First thing to check is the two carbon blocks mounted on top running on a track attached to the drum for wear? If badly worn they will jump off the track at certain points where screws are used for mounting the track!!
Power off please!!!!
No LED lights flashing?
Hope this helpsMarch 21, 2010 at 12:54 am #315781Penguin45

Hope this helpsHi thanks for the reply, the two blocks on the top are fairly worn. But I thought they were for the motor, are they related to the moisture sensors?
No flashing lights or anything untoward.

Ah so that’s how it does it, are these temperature sensors accessible? Could it be that they have got covered in fluff and are too insulated to give a correct reading?

1.1 Residual moisture drying process
Basis of residual moisture drying process
The residual moisture drying process consists of the following phases:
Timed cycles such as Warm air, Woollens hand care and Woollens 😉 smoothing are carried out with different drying processes.
Measuring phase – Ambient temperature
The laundry moisture level and ambient conditions (water conductivity, ambient temperature) are established.
Heating phase
Warming up the laundry.
Decision phase – Air path blockage
Depending on the increase in temperature with time and the final value, a decision is made by the control as to whether the flow rate should be measured during the drying process or not. There is no reversing.
If there is no air path blockage, the equilibrium phase is carried out.
If an air path blockage is registered, the air path blockage phase is carried out.
Air path blockage phase
The flow rate is measured. During this period, the heater rating is not changed and no reversing action takes place.
If an air path blockage is registered, a special air path blockage fault procedure is carried out.
Equilibrium phase
In this drying phase, the residual moisture level is reduced evenly while the drying air temperature and moisture level remain virtually constant.
Extraction phase
During further drying the moisture level is reduced and the temperature increases.
The heater rating is reduced and the drying process slows down.
Overdrying phase (extended drying time phase)
The laundry is dried for a certain time beyond the desired residual moisture level.
In order to ensure gentle treatment of the laundry, the temperature at the heater bank, and hence in the load, is reduced.
Reduced air flow (throttled) phase
If, during the drying process, the air flow in the tumble dryer is reduced due to clogged main filter, secondary filter or blocked vent ducting, the dryer control ensures that the number of switching cycles of the heater relay and motor relay is reduced.
Cooling phase
The laundry is cooled.
Anti-crease phase
The drying process has completed.
To reduce crease development, the laundry is agitated at regular intervals.
so the carbons sense moisture to the electronics 😉

Right, I’ll pop the top off later and take a look!
Can these carbon blocks be replaced?
UPDATE:
They are very warn, any thoughts on part numbers or suppliers?

Hi parts are available im sure the chaps here may help you?
part number you reguire 5153700 Carbon brush
sent you a PM but listed part number incorrectly the one on here is the correct one

Many thanks for the part number, and these are responsible for the moisture sensing?

yes they are
normal symptom you might find more steam than normal when machine is running? 😉March 29, 2010 at 11:16 am #315790dan_uk_1984
ParticipantRe: Miele T230C Condenser – Doesn’t turn off
Replaced the carbon blocks, but unfortunately the problem remains.
Does anyone know exactly where the sensors are so I can take a look at them and clean then if necessary?
Obviously I’m loathed just to keep throwing money at it.
Thanks,
Dan

Item 10 and 7
One is mounted behind the plate at back of machine attached to heater
and the other is mounted in the ducting behind the front panel ( which is not an easy task removing the front casing 😥 )
But normally if these go short/open circuit the Hand iron led flashes? 😕
And if heater was overheating the safety cut-out would have gone ( the blue spot stat mounted on top of heater! :rolls: strange?May 26, 2013 at 9:11 am #315792washermanuk

I,m just adding this for future info!! Please check the front fan mounted behind the grill at the bottom for any build up of fluff etc? You can just about see and clean it with a vacuum nozzle? As this will effect the running and performance of the drying
process. -
