Customer has a nine year old Miele W1714 used every day as husband is a builder by trade and reports that it no longer spins and F53 comes up. If you slowly rotate the drum round she can hear a clicking sound probably from the motor area.
Suspect brushes have been worn down to the brass holder as they have not been replaced yet. Even damage to the armature.
Used to repair the old Miele washers with the three front bolts to gain access to the motor/brushes but on this newer model W1714 there is only one large torz bolt at the bottom and two small screws at the top of the front panel.
Am I correct in assuming the motor access is still from the front and what is the best way to get the motor out on these newer models. As we know Miele give nothing away including Technical manuals.
Customer had problems with Miele not going onto spin mode and kept using the machine in spite of problems. One carbon brush worn completely away and as you had stated the armature was damaged on two segments.
Managed to skim the armature lightly on a lathe to save a new £440 motor for them. One brush had plenty of meat still on it. Only 1/4 worn down? Cannot believe Miele have the gall to charge around £60.00 for OEM brushes? Pity the EEC does not stop ridiculous overpricing of domestic spares to the customer.
