Hello

Our 16 year old Miele washer has been diagnosed by Miele as having a faulty control board. The cost of repair is £427.

It has done 8000 hours.

Is it better to get it repaired or buy a new machine?

Many thanks.
Hi Dave,

Well we switched it on to do a wash and a sudden burning smell became apparent.
We switched the machine off from the back and called out an engineer who took a look and informed us the fault was with the control board; there was no water in the drum and the machine couldn’t gauge this and turned on the heater element (hence the burning smell).

you say its going to cost £427 but you dont say if its including the initial call out or not.

deciding whether to repair or not is always difficult. I would hope seeing as you are using Miele themselves to repair the it will be checked over for any other possible faults just like a good MOT on a car

at the end of the day its always a chance but at least with Miele you have a good chance of it going for a few years without problems

Thanks Dave for your advice, it’s been most helpful.

The £427 does include the initial call out charge, yes.
May I ask; if we were to buy a new Miele machine, would it be worth paying extra for a model that comes with a 10 year guarantee, in your opinion?

the only reason i asked about the call out charge is you can now sort of ignor it as no matter what you decide you going to pay it
so say call out is £100
then its a choice between gatting the one you have fixed for £327 or putting this towards a new one

well if the extra cost give you peace of mind then it may be worth it and the better built models have this because they are less likely to fail
