    Hi all

I have a 10 yr old washing machine which does not dry completely at the end of cycle.

When doing a manual final spin – there is still some soapy water coming out, but it does not drain all of that away.

I have checked the filter which is clear, when taking out the filter it drained the remaining of water from the drum.

I have cleaned the drainage which were full of scale and sludge and feeling pleased with myself cleaning all that off. Once this is completed, the symptoms persists 🙁

I am prepared to open apart the machine, but would like some advice and tips on what exactly needs doing.

    Thanks

    P.

on some Miele washers there is a thin vent tube coming out of the pump up the left hand side. think it goes to the soap draw. Its job is to let the air out of the pump to help it drain

if this gets blocked the pump gets air locked with the foam

Thanks – do anyone have links to disassembly of the machine or other tips? I see somewhere else they mention changing the motor brushes? Would I need to do this?

if its the one I think it is there will be 3 10mm bolts round the door

    if yes

remove soap draw and remove 3 screws
open filter and unclip water drain tube
undo 3 bolts round door and front of machine will hinge open after unclipping metal clip at the bottom

if it does not have 3 bolts let me know and you will need a torx driver to unscrew everything

if brushes were an issue it would not spin at all. to test spin it with no clothes in

There’s only one hex bolt at bottom of door, and one torx at the drawer.

understand about brushes – when it spins up (eventually) it does spin very fast.

    right slightly different then

undo spring on door rubber and unclip
remove kick strip ( remove covers over screws and remove screws
torx screws at bottom of front panel panel left and right
    unscrew door lock
then undo large screw and panel should drop down and unclip

if you need lid off there are two screws near the front on left and right. Loosen screw but don’t remove it and push it in. this should unlock latches to allow you to lift lid up from the front it then hook on the rear

    MANY thanks for your help.

Both ‘breather’ pipes and the Y connector were totally blocked with nice yucky stuff !

Machine now working – better than before as the draining is much quicker.

    Cheers

Have just fixed my w524 thanks to Dave’s tip (couldn’t have done it without you, Dave!) and found some plastic clips (the sort you’re supposed to take off the new shirt before you put it in the wash…) had worked their way up the breather hose (being plastic they probably floated to the top of the pump chamber and thus easily started their journey up the breather hose, unlike, say, a paperclip) – their shape acted like barbs, so they wouldn’t just wash through… had to really squeeze the tubing to get them out – a fine plug of gunk had built up around them. Top panel & side panel (three Torx screws each front, top, back) also had to come off to get the tube out to work on it – the Y piece is behind the side panel. Dave’s synopsis for taking off the front is good, but there might be minor differences in build – the spring-loaded clip that goes round the main door seal on mine is a single piece of wire (bit thinner than coat hanger wire) with a spring to join the two ends, and the spring doesn’t actually detach (the ends of the wire are closed around the ends of the spring). But, the action is still obvious – grab it & pull it off, trying not to damage stuff on the way! Putting it back on is a bit tedious. Also worth a reminder that when reassembling, the emergency pull for the door has to be fed back through the slot, or you’ll be taking the front off again… (At least the clip around the door seal can be left on for this remedial work!)

    Thanks again to Dave 🙂

I have also just fixed my W524 thanks to Dave. I was doubtful that I’d be able to take it apart, and almost certain that I wouldn’t manage to fix and put it back together, so I ordered a new Miele before I started. I can cancel that now. Thank you, Dave. This is what the internet is best at!

Had the same issue with my Miele W524 not pumping all the water out, despite the pump working, the filter being clear and the main pipes to and from the pump also seeming to be clear.
I did find it tricky to get to the upper connection of the vent pipe onto the Y connection, so unbolted the spring hanger that was in the way (had to lever the drum up, to bolt the spring hanger back). The pipe was full of sludge. Also pulled out the other pipe that goes from the Y connection to the outlet at the rear, which was also full of sludge.
Doubt I’d have found the problem if I hadn’t stumbled on this post, so thank you.
