miele w736 washing mashine

Hi, I have a w736 washing machine and it ‘clicks’ alot when the machine is in the rinse mode, I guess whenever the water and the drum are both running. Any ideas??

I don’t quite know what you mean by “clicking” but it may well be an object in the pump/filter hitting the pump impellor.

Have you checked the filter ?

Could possibly be relays?? Please elaborate; is it whilst drum is turning only or during fill aswell

The clicking is definitely electronic, and it’s only when the drum is turning and the water is filling for the rinse cycles. The initial fill and any filling doesn’t click if the drum is not turning.

I would imagine if it is working ok it is normal

Hi Gegsy, It just started a couple washes ago. Otherwise it worked superbly. Now, the rinse is questionable.

What you have described to date suggests a fault in in the water level control system. This employs a multilevel switch operated by air pressure. The air chamber occasionally gets clogged with old soap and other detritus and will give false readings, this can lead to “interesting” things happening in the cycle. Undoing a few screws around the soap box and the bolts around the door opening will allow the entire front of the machine to swing open like a cupboard door and reveal the workings. This must be done with the power off…………

The airchamber is at the 6 o’clock position on the tub front and should be thoroughly flushed out and cleaned, as should the rubber grommet to which it fits.

If you are not confident about doing this yourself, please get pro help – check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW engineer in your area.

The Meile range of machines are amongst the best autowashers ever built, so it is definitely worth sorting out.

Hi Gregsy, Penguin, Thank you so much for your contributions. the machine does not fill all the time. On/off just like in regular wash cycle only it’s difficult to tell if the fill/rinse is working as it should.

At this juncture I would follow Chris’s suggestion and get an engineer in.
Miele charge is £74.47 + vat. This price reflects the quality of the machine and the service you will get (btw Hotpoint charge more)

I just went in and found the switch easily enough, though it seemed very clean, I removed it and rinsed it through. After lunch I tried it and same sound. I removed the lower panel as well and observed the machine as it worked.

The clicking starts each time the drum stops to change direction and some drainage occurs. Is it supposed to fill and rain every stop in direction? When the drum restarts and the drainage stops, the clicking stops. When it clicks the flexible drain tube does some significant flexing perfectly coincidental with each click. The clicking is definetely located on the right front of the door( which I know probably is elementary).
