ParticipantHello folks
I have a Miele W842 washer that’s about 10 years old and recently noticed that on the spin cycle it is making a lot of noise and vibration. The machine is never filled with too heavy or too light loads. When the drum is turning during normal operation (not just on spin cycle) it also seems to be bouncing up and down a bit more than I can remember.
I intend to pull it out from under the counter and take off the lid, can anyone suggest what I need to look for and what the problem may be.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Re adjust the feet before you touch anything else.
It’ll most likelly be either need adjusting or touching something.Bryan

Hi
I’ve checked the feet according to the handbook and used a spirit level. I didn’t need to make any adjustments, there is no movement and it is level.
Do you think it may be the suspension?

Turn drum with your hand when the doors open, if theres any roughness in the movement it may suggest bearing trouble. Bearings & suspension are not known to be that problematic to be honest unless it has gotten excessive use.

Hi
I’ve turned the drum and it rotates smoothly, but I did notice it moves back and forth quite easily. A fairly light push to the back of the drum can make it rock back and forth and it make a “clonk” sound when the drum reaches the front.
The machine is used on average about once a day, sometimes twice, for a family of four for the last ten years. I don’t know if that is considered excessive?
Thanks

ParticipantUpdate
Hi,
I called the Miele helpline and explained the symptoms and the technical people thought the shocks were at fault.
I ordered some Europart replacement shocks and carefully laid the washer on its side and swapped them. The old ones looked to have leaked some oil and grease down the struts to the mountings.
The washer spins much quieter now without the awful hammering/drumming noise, but I still think it isn’t quite right. Should I consider changing the mounting springs? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Paul

Have you checked the counterweights are attached securely?

Hello odom
Sorry about the delay in replying.
I’ve checked the weights and they are all secure. I’ve looked around the rest of the machine and all fixings and fasteners are tightly secured.
The machine is running a lot better now that the shocks were replaced it’s not quite as good as it was. Is it possible the vibration may have damaged something?
Thanks
Paul
