Our Miele showed a flashing rinse light error warning and the drum has stopped turning. After extensive investigation of the outlet pipes, water level drum, engine and its brushes we have found that the fuse has blown on the control board. However, when this was replaced it promptly blew again. Does anyone know what could cause this? I had just done a 95degrees wash and wonder if the heating element might cause it.

The machine is fabulous inside and environmentally I feel strongly that we should mend it and not junk it. However, it doesn’t make economic sense. I welcome the ISE machines on this site. Its terrible that we are all forced into the position of it being cheaper to junk and buy a new machine when the one we have probably has a minor fault that could be fixed.

Please help before I drown in washing or murder my husband…

You should be able to find an engineer who can do a cost effective repair using the repairs@ facility on this site.

sounds like could be just your carbon brushs a bit awkward on these but worth doing i would recommend you get someone in to do it.

Thanks. My husband is an engineer, though not washing machines and has the right equipment and electrical knowledge. He did check the brushes and despite the age of the machine they are fine.

We talked to one non specific engineer who agreed he would only be able to do what we had done. I contacted domex 2 days ago and they have not got back. In London repair costs are expensive and fair enough everyone has to live. However, the economics are that if we are not to junk this machine we have to buy the parts second hand and fix it ourselves or sadly it is cheaper to junk it and buy and new one on eBay. I really don’t want to do this as this would be a waste.

Looking at the heating element tonight to see if this is causing the fuse to blow. Any other ideas welcome.

😀 Hurrah our machine is going again. There is a series of posts on DIYnot if you are interested about the workings of these machine’s electronics. Basically one of the switches had gone on our control board and also blown the fuse. We sent the control board off to an eBay guy in Germany who fixed it for around 50 euros and our machine is working again. I know repair guys have to make money too, but something has to change in this world with the way resources are going. The Mieles are beautifully made machines, as a non-engineer even I can appreciate the inside. The components broken on our machine probably cost less than 5 pounds and yet ourselves and several other people were near to junking perfectly good machines into land fill because the economics don’t make it worthwhile to get them repaired. So, we feel really good that we haven’t had to do that and I hope others follow suit. Surely there must be a better way? 😆
