ParticipantI’m hoping to purchase a Miele washing machine either 7kg or 8kg but having trouble on deciding which model. My budget is £700. 2 adults and one child at the moment and we don’t have room for a dryer. Someone mentioned the amazing cleaning and stain removal power of their Miele machine but not sure if this is one of the upper end models.
I would love to hear your experiences of your Miele washing machine and any advice appreciated 🙂Thank you

ModeratorI replied earlier on today in your thread “New washing machine advice”
“The WSD123 is an 8kg machine I would not go any higher than that. The 1400 spin is more than adequate, the higher the spin the more creasing and the life of fabric is also reduced.
The Miele will do very well. You need to compare machines on https://www.miele.co.uk/c/laundry-saving-2517.htm as some do have a five year warranty.”
Usually best to keep things to one thread, but as you have started a new thread re a different request I’ll lock the other thread.

ParticipantHi Don,
Thank you for your reply.
I realise you had replied to my previous post but I was just reaching out to other Miele washing machine owners to see how their machine is performing. Since my question has evolved a bit now that I’ve made a decision on a brand I thought it would be okay to ask the audience so to speak. Sorry I will keep to this thread now.

ParticipantMy Miele is nearly 3 years old. Its by far the best washing machine I’ve owned.
I’ve got an entry level (the cheapest) & the cleaning power is phenomenal. My son trashes his clothes (mud, curry, tomato stains, the lot) & everything comes out spotless with using Lidl detergents! For badly stained whites then I shove a spoonful of Lidl’s version of Vanish in – they come out spotless including blood stains.
I’ve even shoved mud stained school trousers in on a quick 30 min wash & they’ve come out spotless!
I never use conditioner because everything comes out smelling extremely fresh. I always leave the door open & pull the detergent drawer out to dry, this avoids bad smells building up, which is what happened to my old machine.
Items are also less creased. They are in a loose pile at the end of the wash, not stuck to the sides of the drum. No need to iron the kids hoodies & synthetic items like school trousers/skirts etc.
You won’t be disappointed with a Miele. The entry level machines aren’t the best looking machines but the quality of their cleaning power outshines aesthetics.
I am quizzed by the difference in 7 & 8kg loads though….. The drum size for both machines are exactly the same….. I measured the inside of the drum in the store. Maybe a techie can answer this question??

ModeratorBosch 9kg are about the same as well. You will need to reduce the capacity in order to reduce the overall depth could be worth looking at 8kg machines.

ParticipantThe 8kg Miele (and 9kg BOSCH options) I was looking at originally is 63.4cm deep (including door and pipes) but I’m not sure if this means that the machine will stick out past the counter top or just the door and programme wheel. If it was just the door and wheel that would probably be okay but if it’s the machine itself it would block the cupboard. How can I find this out?
Do you think a 9kg would be too big for a family of 3 (maybe more in future)
What are your thoughts of the anti stain features? Should a washing machine remove stains anyway without pre treating with Vanish? Mine definitely doesn’t remove stains.

ModeratorThe only way of telling is to measure what is currently installed or post me up the make and model number please.
An 8 kg is more than enough for a family of three going on 4 and I would no go higher on spin than a 1400 😉
As for those stains most will but don’t as the public fail to use the correct programme and dosage of powder!! There is a large raft of info here which covers all this and more, some very late night reading for you.

ParticipantThank you Don, I will definitely have a read.
Our current machine is a Candy Alise GOW475
There are a few machines I’m considering
Miele WSD323 8kg Powerwash
As long as body of machine wouldn’t stick out past counter top)
5yr warranty is a plusBOSCH Serie 6 WAU28R9OGB 9kg
I like the features like Speed Perfect and Anti Stain
Drum might be too large for usBOSCH Serie 6 WAU28T64GB 9kg
Same features but large drum size.BOSCH Serie 4 WAN282281 8kg
No anti stain feature but otherwise would suit our needs.I’ve measured all the BOSCH machines and they would all fit as it’s only the door that would stick out. I’m asking my in-laws to measure an 8kg Miele machine in John Lewis next week.
Our current machine can take over 3 hours to wash a full load so I’m looking for a machine that washes quicker and anti stain feature would be a massive bonus.
Any thoughts?

ModeratorThe Candy you have is a slim depth washer dryer which is 54cm deep. If the machine is pushed back as far as it will go then you have problems. It may be the case that some pipework behind may be causing the problem. Before you start selecting machines further investigation is required as to why the slim depth was installed in the first place.
Loads more late night reading here on spin speeds, fast washes and more.

ParticipantThe Candy isn’t pushed all the way back. There is some space behind but I can’t tell how much as I can’t see measurement on tape measure. I estimate about 5cm. It isn’t fully in line with the top of counter either. The depth of the space is 60cm to edge of counter top. This was the first machine we purchased and to be honest we didn’t even think about the depth specifically.
The machines I viewed yesterday seem to have a bit of an overhanging ledge where the pipes are concealed so I’m thinking a depth of 63.4 would be okay as long as it’s only the door and wheel sticking out

The cut away is also for skirting boards 😉

ParticipantHi Don,
What is the cut away?
I’ve had look behind my Candy and there’s just a single plug and the pipe from the washing machine going into right corner. I’ve done more measurements and it’s a big risk with fitting the Miele especially with the skirting board. It would have to sit right against the back wall. I’m also not sure of the logistics of having the Miele delivered, not fitting and having our old one taken away.
I’ve been looking at BOSCH WAN28281GB instead but there’s also a Siemen’s (IQ300) which is very similar (I know it’s the same company) but it comes with a five year warranty but the Siemen’s model seems to be discontinued for some reason. What are your thoughts on discontinued machines? Any other thoughts?
