Miele washing machine. Drum hits door seal

Hi all.
This machine has got the better of me. Its i think a 500 model.

Customer rang saying its the bearings. Went out to have a look and could only see that the legs had a little bit of knocking.

When i had the machine out to test with new legs it bagan to make the original noise.

It is the door seal hitting the inner drum as it spins. But can not for the life of me see why. Has anyone had this problem or know of the correct answer.

I have no clue at this stage. First you’ll need to check out the model number and then price up the worst case (what if) scenario.

Hi. Im being silly. Where is the spigot. Are you talking about the spider or do miele have a different setup to other machines.

Yes sorry, spider or drum spigot. The 3 legged drum support in essence. One of the arms may have corroded and broken.

Best way to know is if the drum doesn’t rotate evenly as it should but has an elliptical rotation and catches the door boot in one spot. That’s a dead giveaway. 😉

No. The whole drum moves forwards. But there is no play. Its like there is a vacuum and the inner drum is pulled towards the door seal. What then makes a really bad noise. Never ever seen it before. No play whatsoever.

I had a similar one where the nodule on the seal ended getting ripped off. Never did get to the bottom of it, like you said it’s a strange one

Maybe Simon is on to something when he mentions the word “vacuum”. Maybe the air vent is blocked and the spinning action does create suction?

With mine I suggested getting Miele out as I wasn’t happy fitting a new expensive seal without knowing the cause. Was hoping she would let me know the outcome.

Hi. Went out to this machine again today and indeed it creates a vauccum when you have nothing inside it.

Took off the front pannel and placed on a spin. Then chucked a towel in while at around 600 rpm. The noise appeared for me this time and its the spider..

Resolved..
