I was called to this machine because it was tripping the RCD on switch on. I got the fault down to the dryer ntc showing an earth fault. Ordered and replaced, but when the dryer is switched on, it come up with fault indication 4. I can’t find a specific fault for this but suspect it is telling me that the ntc is at fault. Before I left the machine when I located the fault originally, I tried it with the ntc disconnected to see if it would work so they could at least use the washer. It showed this fault then also, but I just thought that when it was replaced, it would clear. The washer side works fine now, so clearly the ntc is not faulty. I think that by trying the washer with the ntc disconnected on my original call, I may have triggered the fault condition, which now needs to be reset. I have tried various combinations of button pushing, but to no avail. Can anyone help here please? I feel it is going to be a relatively simple process to reset once I know the procedure. Thank you in anticipation. Steve.

If you get F4 its a fault, meaning NTC fault, so either the NTC is out of range or poor connections (most likely) at n.t.c p.c.b etc.

Thanks Seamy, I checked all that when I fitted the new NTC, so I know that it is ok in that respect. I think I will have to go back and recheck. The customer has tried several times since I was there, but to no avail. I also checked the PCB that the NTC connects to, and all looks ok. Additionally, it is quite a new machine, just over two years old, and the display doesn’t come up with F4, it comes up with “fault indication 4”. A small point I will concede, but may be relevant. I still can’t get away from this nagging feeling that there is some kind of reset procedure. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thank you. Steve.

I’ve worked on one of them recently, not same fault problem but was throwing up a fault code that was tacho problem which I sorted out. There was no reset procedure necessary, when problem solved it worked fine again.

Went back to this machine yesterday and rechecked the connections, continuity etc. No problem there, yet still getting “technical fault 4” (not fault indication 4 as previously stated, sorry my fault) on the dryer only. Washer works perfectly. I tried getting in touch with Miele in the vain hope that they may give me a clue. It didn’t work of course, they told me I need to book an engineer visit haha. I’m beginning to think the supplied NTC may be at fault after all. I’m at a bit of a loss now, although the customer has been very understanding. Sad to say, I may have to give up on this one. Any more ideas? Steve.

Update: After racking my brains, yes, I know it’s hard to believe, I decided the fault still had to be in the NTC. Ordered and went back and fitted. Technical fault 3!!! Refitted originally replaced NTC. Technical fault 3!!! Customer said they would reluctantly call Miele, and let me know the outcome. Massive fail. Thanks anyway fellas. Steve.
