I am amazed to find this site an absolute wealth of information for certain whitegoods brands that I, in my 38yrs in the trade have never heard of!

Yesterday I discovered ‘Fisher Paykel’ another weird name (from the Land of the Big White Cloud apparently) to add to my list. Other brands that have enlightened me lately : Diplomat, Homark, Blomberg, Asko, Teba, Proline and Tecnik. And the amazing part is that you guys out there have all the answers to these obscure enquiries???

When it come to asking a question about a Hotpoint Washer Dryer that won’t work on dry, most folks haven’t a clue! But a Fisher Paykel with a duff Mosfet (whatever that is) and dozens of you have the answer??

    B***dy amazing!

It’s half the fun Martin – there are far fewer makers than brands; so it’s not the name on the box that’s interesting, it’s what’s in the box! Remember the early days of Merloni!? Bendix 7123 / 7124 ? Then the Electras (AWM800/1000). Then Servis, then Whirlpool washers, then washer dryers. Then every bl@@dy obscure built in appliance in the world ever? They started to become the Microsoft of the appliance world!

For my sins, many years ago I was Mister Newpol. And Proline. And Polar Queen, Polar King, Solartronic, Tecnogas, Tecnolec, the original Iberna, Ocean and others. I could tell you the names of the actual manufacturers, but it’s probably all irrelevant these days, cos’ they’ll all have been bought/sold/merged or bankrupted by now. All just names, but when I went on my own, I was armed to the teeth with this goldmine of knowledge. But that was just the tip of the Iceberg!(They were around for a short while as well!)

Who the hell are Zerowatt? And why do they make Bosch and Whirlpool integrated Washer dryers?

What happened to San Georgio – the original Blomberg people?

Why do Brandt deny any connection with the current range of Blomberg machines, but admit to the Ocean ones, both of which are sold by Comet? And both of which come form Brandt!

Who makes the Belling washer? It’s about the only one I haven’t figured out yet!

The list is endless, and we’re the poor schmucks supposed to figure it all out!

Oh well, tomorrow’s another day, and somehow another dollar.
Just don’t get me started on Diplomat/Schrieber/Hygena. It’s probably worth starting a separate Public Help forum just for these dishwashers!

    Telling myself it’s still fun,

    Regards,

    Penguin.

The last one I had to repair for stoves was full of Gorenje Branded parts ,But the washer /dryers I have seen are Merloni

Have you ever played the game of tying the currys sales rep up in Knots I once had one that was trying to tell me that Servis were ultra reliable ,Indesit and ariston were independent of one another,And that Hotpoint and Creda had never met !

Zerowatt were a small Italina manufacturer bought by Candy Group in the mid-eighties when their appliances were about as welcome as a dose of the clap! 😆 Now their just badged Candy.

Bosch & Whirlpool I dunno about but it will be to save costs on manufacturing integrated applliances, small market, big cost but they have to have them for the contract market and specialist kitchen retailers.

Still in existance AFAIK, but under ownership.

This will be an interesting link for many of you: http://www.giic.com/welcome.html

AFAIK most of the recent Blomberg is Brandt and the occasional Philco, who are 51{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} owned by Merloni (shocker ;)) the last I checked.

    Re: Minor Brands!

I have been making my living out of obscure makes over the last forty two years.
Seen alot of the makes mentioned come into the country, use the Independent retailers and service companies to get established. Even D&G started that way, under a different name, (Thompson Bull, and I think a different name before that). Then move on to the National companies Like Mastercare, Homecare, for National coverage. Or get taken over by the likes of Candy, Merloni, Whirlpool.
When they are unknown they pay the going rate. When they get big they try to own you. I am long in the tooth now, so can afford to tell the big boys to shove it. I can still make my money from my client base, and the obscure makes. Especially if you know where to go for the spares, that can include the original manufacturers european factory in some cases.
