As already noted, the machine was unplugged.
Younger engineer, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I don’t usually turn machines upside down but this method came from these forums, the point of which to get help and advise on different ways of completing repairs I hadn’t realised Martins tips are the only ones that should be followed else the risk of being flamed!
I won’t ask the age or length of experience of the engineer that posted this originally!
Side panels and lid were removed but floor unlikely to be damaged as protective sheets were used.
Maybe you should try to be a little more helpful and constructive instead being unnecessarily rude, sarcastic and jumping to wrong conclusions Martin?!

What a lot of saintly holier than thou engineers frequent this forum. I have been involved with whitegoods repairs for over 30 years and STILL things go wrong unexpectedly. The point I would like to make is that ONLY when I have achieved total perfection in everything I do, ONLY THEN do I have the possible reason to decry someone for a genuine mistake. That day is a long way off!
There are always more than one way to skin a cat as, they say.
Peronally in this instance I would be completely honest about what has happened as bullsh1t has a habit of landing back at your feet. If the guy in question is a friend, he will know your integrity (hopefully) and may even say “oh yeah, I remember the plumber dropping that come to think of it”.
Worst case – offer to replace the module F.O.C. or go 50/50 with him on the cost. Stuff happens -FACT!November 24, 2012 at 9:57 pm #385333DrDill

He was being constructive, Dont turn machines upside down to repair! Simples, there is absolutely no reason to do this, just like you dont turn cars upside down to fix them, no need.
Have you even considered that just because others have said they do it this way that they may also be just as daft. But hey ho each to there own, maybe they train the BSH engineers to do it this way too, maybe the service manuals show exploded drawings on how to do it, no dont think so!!

Please let’s keep this on topic, as had already been stated this could have happened if the machine had just been tilted a little so the problem that twoten has is nothing to do with the machine being turned upside down.
Any further posts that are ‘off topic’ will be removed.

I would have charged for PCB stating the heater caused the PCB damage.
Friends and cash don’t mix, relatives even worse, I hate charging relatives out of pride, I assume they no the charge is normally at least £30 for a basic call out plus parts, but recently I was asked how much I wanted, I stated just the parts £15 and was give a £20 and told to keep the change!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I work for free cheeky c888.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, to bring this to a conclusion:
Unfortunately I think the module was beyond a track repair. No display, pump runs constantly, not anti flood switch.
EMW will only repair the Bosch D/W modules if it’s a heating problem. When this happened I explained exactly what had caused it(I wouldn’t lie about it) and suggested a couple of options:
1) I remove the part and hope I can use it on another job in the future and not charge for it.
2) I offered to split the cost of the replacement PCB.My friend said he would cover the cost of the module and accepted it was ‘one of those things’ and not my fault there was a foreign object in the machine. I still maintained I would cover half the cost.
My friend has a relation that works for Bosch (Office worker I think) so was going to see if he can get a better discount.
I spoke to him yesterday and it turns out his relation can get a very good discount on a new machine and would prefer to go down this route.
I have told him I will remove the part fitted and not charge for it, he insists on paying for it still…… I still won’t take anything for it.
Thanks again guys,
Keith.November 28, 2012 at 10:47 am #385341iadom

Well I have to say Twoten, your answer is rather heart warming, boosted by the fact as the customer was happy to take the hit.
There is so much crap bandied about regards rip-off merchants in our business and this just shows the majority of us can accept things such as these. There again the customer was good, possibly as he was a mate, but I daresay would have been o.k. in any case.
You may not have made anything out of it, but to walk away knowing you done your best, you can keep a smile on your face.
Another one for the Sh*t Happens occasion.

But why are the odds greater that it will happen when you’re either doing someone a favour or doing a job you were hesitant to take in the first place? :rolls:
