Moving house this weekend and need a new washing machine as we decided to donate the old one to the people buying our house. I was all set on the Bosch Serie 6 WAT28371GB but after discovering this site Im less sure and am thinking it might be worth investing a bit more in a machine that will clean better/last longer.

I’ve seen in older threads here recommendations for the Miele W1 WDD030 but that was when they had the free 10yr warranty promotion which has now ended. As far as I can see the extended warranty costs arount £250 which puts the total price out of our budget. Is it still worth going for a Miele without the warranty?

There are also Siemens iq300 units that come with a 5 year warranty around the £5-600 mark which would seem a good compomise but are bottom end Seimens units any good?

    Thanks in advance!

How many people are using the machine? 3 (2xadults plus 1×3.5 yr old dog soon to be added!)
How many loads of washing per day are you doing roughly? 1-2
Do you line dry or use a tumble dryer? New house has a covered outdoor area so line drying should be available for the majority
Do you have size limits to what you can fit? nope
Have you any special needs? nope
What sort of budget you have. £4-500 would be ideal but £700ish is probably tops

    Re: More Washing Machine Recommendations

    Hi

That Bosch in the big scheme of things is better than most out there. The Siemens are the same basic machine as the Bosch but with more bells and whistles.

The Miele machines are a class above the Bosch. It’s well known they are built to a good standard and do last longer. They will come with the same two year warranty as the other two. Downside? Very few independent service engineers will look at one as they cannot access the tech support which means you are locked into Miele service. The spares are higher in price as well. That said if you wear out the bearings on the Miele they can be changed whereas the Bosch etc have the dreaded sealed tub.

If you are washing say eight loads a week then the Miele will outlast the Bosch.

There are a couple which come into your budget here on the A.O. site.

    HTH 🙂

” Very few independent service engineers will look at one as they cannot access the tech support which means you are locked into Miele service. Miele are one of those companies that are more secretive than the KGB. You get zilch tech support and in my experience you can wait awhile for any spares you may need to appear.
The spares are higher in price as well”. Very much higher priced spares. And the warranty on a machine at that price is only 2 years too.

By the way ” tested for 20 years ” is meaningless: could mean the machine is sooooo brilliant they do not break down….hmmm, doubtful that one OR could mean a multitude of very expensive spares have been used in order to achieve 20 years.
