    Hi,

If more than a light load is put in the drum, the motor fails to turn. I can hear it straining and there is a slight electric burning smell afterwards.

I have followed threads elsewhere on this forum site and have striped down and thoroughly cleaned out all the fluff etc from the front felt bearings, lightly greased the rear bearing, and generally given it a good clean.

The machine starts to run better than before, but still won’t take a proper load.

Rotating the drum by hand is quite stiff.

I have read elsewhere that you can lubricate the felt bearings with a PTFE spray – does this work or should I replace the felt bearings?

I assume damage will have been done to the motor when it was straining to start and is now a weaker motor than it should be – if this is the case will I need to replace the whole motor or just parts of it?

    Any help or suggestions welcome,

    Thanks

Re: Motor start problem on Zanussi TC481

I think the problem may be with the motor start capacitor to be honest or the motor itself.

The drum will feel quite hard to turn generally when pushing by hand 😉

You may want to calll an engineer to investigate the likely problems to be honest as it could be one of a few things, try Repairs@ for one, or if you persevere yourself, please ensure the power is off :zap:

    Dave.
