KeymasterRight, next…
Sean and I were off down to stupid bl00dy London a while back to see the OFT with a view to getting the UKW COP on this…
http://www.oft.gov.uk/oft_at_work/consu … ves/codes/
It’s going to take 18 months to 2 years to do it. I have contact details and talk/guide/help whoever needs it to get it done. However, I think it should be done.
We need it costed.
We need it re-opened as they never sent me the login details although saying that UKW could do it. I don’t think it should be UKW Ltd that does this, it should be the TA that does it and UKW just supports it by applying it etc.
So, the thought was, put forward by Sean, was to set Adrian on the task. He’s desperate to get into something and seems to be tenacious enough for this task.
If this is acceptable to everyone and Adrian, can we get the ball rolling ASAP please as this is very important. It makes the WTA COP instantly very valuable for not a lot of money.
Ta, discuss…

I second that – Adrian is the man for the job. He’d better withdraw his bear prodding stick from E’bay – he’s gonna need it!!!! 😉
If I can help, I will.Steve.

It is something that will take up a considerable amount of time and effort.
If Ade agrees to take this on then I think he can count on all our support.

It will take a lot of time and effort, there’s more than a few hoops to jump through.
However, I think it will be good for the trade in general and I think it will be good for the WTA. I also think that we’ll learn a lot along the ways, which is all good.
Strategically, for the WTA, this is extremely important IMO and we just can’t afford to f**k it up. With it the association has massive kudos and credibility but, it will require dedication (which Ade has shown in spades) and a bit of patience.
Like I said, use the resources.

OK… That’s one for me then 😀
Can I have an ‘@whitegoodstradeassociation’ email address to register with the OFT? I will also need the settings for Microsoft outlook to send/recieve.
Adrian 😀

Great. 🙂
I’ll ask Li about the email as it’s Linux code, a place only geeks go and the ultra brave, to do it as it’s all hard coded on the server. I can’t do it, I ain’t a code monkey in that way by any stretch, looks like Greek to me. 😉

As far as I know Ade should have his email setup now.
Ade, if you need help on this and, I’m sure you will as Sean will attest, I had to literally brow beat the OFT into agreeing to allow UKW a (shock, horror) commercial entity, into allowing us to proceed with the application. I’m hoping that will be a lot easier as the WTA. That said, if they give you any static let me know, I’m quite good at getting my point across. 😉
Steve, if you can help Ade in this great as I’ve a feeling (knowing the OFT and government in general) that there’s gonna be a fair old bit of donkey work here. I hope it’s worth it in the end but I really think that we outta try for this.
Play on the fact that there are over 250 companies that already adhere to the COP. Numbers get attention with the OFT etc. and that, if we expand the COP to include retailing et all then that is set to grow. 😉
I spoke to Sean earlier on a singular point in the COP as I was kicking it around a bit, I’ll let him explain and expand on the reasoning.
The short of it is this, why can’t the COP for the WTA encompass the industry almost as a whole? If it does encompass all aspects of what we do we take in repairing, spares sales and appliance sales which is quite a cadre of skills really. Now think, why shouldn’t our standard be THE standard. If it is or becomes that then we are the benchmark by which all others are then judged.
Now consider the value of that and the values placed on membership and associate membership.
Funny old thing, the indies get the best deal in all this… can’t think why. 😉

It’s beautiful if we can make it work.
The government perception will be of a group of responsible, respectable businesses who recognise that their industry needs to be regulated – we just do it from the inside out before they try and stick their own big boots in, with their full co-operation.
Like I said, beautiful.

Spot on Chris, self regulate or be dictated to by brainless bureaucrats.
We can demonstrate that the COP is already a proven framework and people only sign up because they see the need for a level of regulation in the industry. This was proven before the WTA was formed. Now with the TA making this venture roll forward, it is exciting to see something new suggested every day within these forums and the response is vibrant.Right, where do we start? Adrian……….:D
