KeymasterHi,
I have a Candy Sprint 1000 Washing Machine that has stopped working.
When I select any Program including drain only or spin only nothing
happens. The Washer has a seperate On/Off switch to the timer and when the
machine is switched on the red light above the timer lights up which
shows that it is not the fuse.In the year before the machine stopped working, the Program selector
switch would sometimes rotate clicking from one program to another
for
about a minute or two before returning to the correct position.I assume that the Timer/Programmer/Selector is faulty and needs
replacing but as I have no experience in repairing washing machines I
would be grateful for your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

It could be a number of things John to be honest but unlikely to be the timer.
Door interlock possible but this is one for an engineer I think, check repairs@ for one.
If you are tempted to go in and have a look, please power off 1st :plug:

Hi John, If that statement is true then the best suggestion I can give is to look,
Simple things you could check, is the door locked after you switch on ?

Hi,
As its a Cheap Washing Machine it’s just not economical to call out a repairman, so if I cant repair it I was thinking of just throwing it away and buying a cheap Beko for £160 with a 3 year warranty for another £60.
An Ex-Engineer suggested to me that it was probably the Interlock, so I took it out but unfortunately he is not familiar with this type of Interlock and he was unable to tell me how to test it or bypass it. Here follows a brief description of the Interlock.
I have carefully taken off all wires to the Interlock and hopefully labelled them well enough to be able to put back together again.
There were 8 wires in total, looking at the Interlock now it is marked:
-AE CAS-
GIAS
92129512250 V
and a little squiggly bit between the 2 Spades, the 2 Spades had previously showed continuity with the live pin on the mains plug when the main On/Off switch on the machine was in the On position.
The side of the Interlock I have just described is the side where the door release activator is.
The other side of the Interlock has 6 smaller spade terminals labelled 1-1-6-3. by the side where the main On/Off switch is.
Do you have any ideas on how I could bypass the Interlock or test it? or should I gamble on buying a replacement and see if that works?
I am still suspicious about the timer because it has for the last 2 years been behaving erratically as I previously mentioned.
Regards,
John.

Three cheap washing machines in nine years adds up to around £750 plus. Why not invest in something much better ( German made Bosch etc) for around £350 to £400 that will like as not last you 10 years minimum.

KeymasterYep the cheap machines are a false economy really, better to buy something that’s engineered a bit better for long term value.

i get this problem all the time and have to explain to customers
they buy an Indesit for £180 or so and it last 18 months result £100 per year
or you could buy a Miele for about £800 and get a fee 10 year guarentee result £80 per year and no hassle changing it for over 10 years plus spares still available for 15 years plus as thet expect them to be still aroundi know what i would buy

Hi, my previous Post came out incorrectly for some reason. Thanks for your advice when it comes to buying a new machine, I have taken your comments onboard.
Do you have any idea on how I can bypass the Interlock or test it?
It just seems such a shame to throw away the old machine when it is probably only the Interlock or Timer that is at fault.
Regards,
John.
