ParticipantHi – Having trouble with my oven.
It is an Elecrolux slot in non fan single oven – can’t remember the model.#
Anyway, I’ve just cooked the Sunday roast and it smoked so badly that I couldn’t stay in the same room for long.
I put a thermometer into the oven and the temperature was OK (200 i nthe centre). For some reason, fat has pooled in the bottom of the oven. It hasn’t run over the sides so I can only assume it has spat out of the roasting tin.
Never had this before with any other oven. Is there a trick to using this that I’m missing?
Is this normal? I hope not because it’s pretty much unusable smoking like that. Makes the house stink too!

Yep, it the fats burning off. 🙂
There is only one solution I’m afraid, clean it well and clean it regularly.
Even when you do a “sealed” roast let alone an open roast there are fats that will get carried in steam and vapours to be redeposited on the walls of the oven. This will often run down and pool at the bottom over time but it gets everywhere I’m afraid, above the grill element especially being an area to watch.
Virtually all food that you put in the oven will contain some fats that will do this, grilling is really bad for it as it “spatters” everywhere and over time it just builds up.
There are some good cleaners out there, that Fairy Active stuff is pretty good at getting it off and I’m hoping to have some really good commercial cleaner for this from Germany but, it isn’t cheap.

Yes that sort of helps.
Problem is this is a brand new oven. Only second use and was cleaned after first use.
There must be something wrong with the design for this to happen.

Did you do a burn off before first use ie. putting the oven on full to burn the coating off. All new ovens are coated and require a “burn off” this will give off a lot of smoke with an acrid smell to the smoke so windows open and no pets in the room.

Do please give us the model number. I wasn’t aware that Electrolux made an oven these days without at least being a ‘multi-function’ with a fan?
Or maybe it’s a gas oven? 😕

ParticipantI’ll post the model number when I get home.
I was surprised that it wasn’t a fan oven too. It’s all I could get at short notice. My oven broke down on Christmas Eve and Focus was the only place I could get a take-away replacement.
It’s all a bit academic now though because the grill has already broken and I will be getting money back.
I have started another thread to get recommendations on what to replace it with.

Focus…..say no more…a re-badged import of uncertain origin…. :rolls:

ParticipantIt looks exactly the same as EOB51001X with the 3 control knobs except the right hand button has different functions on it – because of the lack of fan.
Do you think it’s simply crap build quality or something?

ParticipantSo do Electrolux let Focus sell sub-standard re-badged goods?

Top & Bottom elements only on that one. No fan except a plastic cooling fan in the top.
