ParticipantMy Hotpoint wma9 doesn`t spin at all!
It fills with water and drains ok but the drum doesn`t spin at all i`ve been told to check the brushes, i took the back off and looked at the motor but not too sure what the brushes should look like.
The washing machine doesn`t make a noise like it`s going to try to spin or anything just sits there humming a bit.
If anybody can give me any ideas i would be most greatful.
thanx

To be honest, and please don’t take this personally, but if you are stuck at this stage then I strongly advise you you get an expert in, have at look at our Repairs@ section by clicking on the link in my sig. there are 3 different motors used on this machine, however no motor action can be caused by several other faults as well. Please make sure you remove the plug if you intend to proceed further.

Good advice from iadom but if determined to proceed then I found in most cases a light tap on the side of the motor with the rubber handle of a screwdriver would produce a burst of life confirming the brushes.

Or possibly sufficient arcing to blow the control module. 😥
mar0609, please don’t try this.

I’m with Iadom here – belting the motor is a bad plan……. although satisfying. Faulty motors, computer boards, chaffed wiring, subsidiary components with wrong values and earth leakages – the list is endless on these.
Engineer time – click the link below. If you are going to investigate further, power off.
